Colas Rail Freight Class 37s stood in for the absent Network Rail NMT and Colas Class 67 locomotives on Friday 20th November 2020. Having carried out track testing between London Paddington, Penzance, Paignton, and Bristol during the day No. 37099 'Merl Evans 1947-2016' and No. 37254 'Cardiff Canton' (in top and tail formation) prepare to depart Taunton operating the final test diagram of their shift 1Q19 18:57 Taunton to London Paddington.

Colas Rail Freight Class 67 locomotives No. 67027 'Charlotte' and No. 67023 'Stella' visited Taunton on the 15th October 2020 with a Network Rail test train. In stunning autumn light the pair pass Broomhay Crossing while operating 1Q13 10:18 Bristol High Level Sidings - Hanwell Bridge Loop (Southall), the train operated via Taunton.

4th September 2020
During the 5th December 2014 Network Rail operated one of their Great Western Mainline Electrification Trains from Swindon to Taunton on a driver training run. No.99 70 9131 005 is pictured at 40 Steps while waiting to return to Swindon. The rear MPV has now been named 'Brunel' by Network Rail. Also captured in the image is a clear view of the latest progress on the Taunton NIDR, with the new roundabout on Staplegrove Road which is now taking quite good shape.

During a brief respite on an otherwise damp and drizzly morning at Nynehead, Class 37s No.37610, and No.37219 top & tail a Network rail test train after a short spell of duty in the Westcountry covering lines which had been omitted on the previous weeks test train. The set is pictured returning north running as 3Z53 10:30 Exeter Riverside to Derby RTC on Thursday 6th August 2020, with a large logo inspired Class 37/6 No.37610 leading.

Under dark brewing skies, the Network Rail NMT passes Cogload Junction on Friday 31st July 2020. The train had met with a delay during its testing diagrams for the day and had earlier cut out a visit to Paignton running 116 minutes late. However, by the time of this photo being taken No. 43014 'The Railway Observer' and No. 43013 'Mark Carne CBE' were running 9 minutes ahead of schedule operating 1Q19 18:57 Taunton - London Paddington.

The Network Rail NMT HST arrives into Taunton on Friday 31st July 2020. The train had met with delay earlier in the day with its testing diagram, arriving at Newton Abbot 116 minutes behind schedule, the decision was taken to omit a visit to Paignton to make up time. The retimed 1Z18 15:58 Newton Abbot - Taunton via Bristol East is pictured arriving back into Taunton at Taunton East Junction, taken from Obridge with No. 43013 'Mark Carne CBE' leading No. 43014 'The Railway Observer' into taunton

Colas Rail Freight Class 67s No. 67027 'Charlotte' and No. 67023 'Stella' approach Taunton for the third time in the same day on Friday 3rd July at Hyde Lane Crossing, while operating 1Z18 15:40 Paignton - Taunton via Bristol East Junction. The pair were standing in for the normal Network Rail NMT HST set on regular track testing diagrams.

The pair are pictured at Banklands operating 1Z18 15:40 Paignton - Taunton via Bristol East Yard. The train was formed of test coaches 977983 977868 5981 6264.

Retro repaint Large Logo Class 37 No.37610 was providing power for a Network Rail UTU Strructure Gauging n Friday 1st May 2020. The locomotive is pictured passing 40 Steps hauling 3Z06 11:46 Derby RTC - Exeter Riverside. On this occasion the 37 was located on west end of the set, which is a rare formation as normally the locomotives need to take fuel at Exeter TMD meaning the set is normally leads through Taunton with the locomotive pushing from the back of the set. A noteworthy inclusion is the former Caladonian Sleeper day coach 9803 in the consist, which has been aquired by Network Rail.

On the 13th March 2020 the Network Rail NMT visited Taunton as part of its regular track testing diagram on the UK rail network. No. 43013 'Mark Carne CBE' is pictured having arrived ready to return to London Paddington with No. 43062 'John Armitt' leading 1Q19 18:57 Taunton - London Paddington.

The unique Network Rail Class 150 No.950001 made a rare visit to Platform 1 at Taunton on the 8th of February 2020. Having completed operating 03:49 Exeter Riverside - Bristol High-Level Siding (via Exmouth and Barnstaple) the unit then returned to Taunton from Bristol rather than stabling at its booked location. The track testing unit arrived just after 12:30 and is pictured stabled in Platform 1.

After a month or so after being out of action for winter maintenance and upgrades the unique Network Rail New Measurement Train was back in action testing infrastructure right across the UK rail network. On a wet Friday 17th January 2020 No. 43014 'The Railway Observer' and No. 43013 'Mark Carne CBE' are pictured in Platform 3 at Taunton ready to depart with 1Q19 18:57 Taunton - London Paddington.

Colas Rail Freight is currently providing cover for the Network Rail New Measurement Train which is out of service on Winter maintenance. On Friday 22nd November 2019 Class 67 No. 67027 'Charlotte' and No. 67023 'Stella' stand at Taunton ready to depart with the 1Q19 18:57 Taunton - London Paddington. The train departed Taunton 31 minutes behind schedule having been held up at Newton Abbot earlier in the afternoon due to a suspected landslide on the Dawlish Sea Wall. The problem was identified as a false alarm but disruption to services had a knock-on effect for services held up at the time.

The two-car Network Rail Diesel Multiple Unit recently visited Devon for overnight infrastructure tests. The one of a kind unit No.950001 passes Marlands on the 18th of November 2019 operating the 2Q08 03:45 Plymouth - Derby RTC.
