Making an unusual morning eastbound appearance through the Taunton area, HST power cars No.43299 and No.43290 with the NMT (New Measurement Train) pass Cat Hill Farm foot crossing near Creech St Michael while working 1Q43 Exeter St Davids to Derby RTC. The train operated via London Paddington and Oxford on Friday 27th August 2021.

Former East Coast Mainline HST powercars No.43299 and No.43290 pass Cogload Junction on the 27th August 2021. The pair were operating a revised testing diagram in the South West. Having operated 1Q18 06:11 Reading Triangle Sidings - Exeter St Davids (passing Taunton at 07:27, 35 minutes ahead of schedule), the set returned north as 1Q43 08:37 Exeter St Davids - Derby RTC routed via London Paddington and Oxford. Due to early running the set was also held in Platform 4 at Taunton for 25 minutes, before departing right time at 09:46. The train was formed of Network Rail test coaches 975984 975814 977993 977994 977995.

Taken at 03:52 in the morning while most people are asleep. Retro large logo Class 37 No.37610 stands at Taunton on the 8th July 2021 operating an overnight Network Rail Test Train. The loco was making its second visit of the night to Taunton and is pictured ready to depart as 3Q06 22:19 Reading Triangle - Bristol Temple Meads. The train had been routed via Newbury, Taunton, Weston-super-Mare, Taunton and finally Bristol.

Making a rare Sunday appearance over the Bank Holiday Weekend, Colas Rail Freight operated a Network Rail Test Train for positioning in the South West. Class 37 No.37116 operated 3Z39 10:56 Hither Green - Exeter Riverside via Twickenham. The train is pictured passing Cogload Junction on time with coaches 96604, 6262, 9810, 999606 and DBSCO 9702 in the consist.

Having carried out various overnight testing in Devon, the Network Rail Test Train returned north through Taunton on the 14th May 2021. With DBSO 9702 leading and No.37612 pushing from the rear the 3Z65 14:57 Exeter Riverisde - Reading Triangle Sidings passes Norton Fitzwarren.

Former East Coast HST powercar No.43299 has joined the current Network NMT fleet. The powercar has spent its entire life racing up and down the East Coast Mainline between London Kings Cross and Scotland. Since the introduction of the Hitachi Azumas, many of these powercars are now stored out of service. On Friday 12th March 2021 No. 43062 'John Armitt' and No.43299 pass Taunton either end of a rare six coach formation of Network Rail test coaches (977995 977984 975814 977993 977994 975984) while operating 1Z18 15:39 Paignton - Taunton via Bristol East Yard.

In the dull dark of a winter's morning, Colas Rail Freight locomotives head away from Taunton. No. 37099 'Merl Evans 1947-2016' and No. 37254 'Cardiff Canton' top and tail a Network Rail test train through Broomhay Crossing (Bathpool) operating 1Q78 01:53 Exeter Riverside - Derby RTC on the 13th November 2021.

Colas Rail Freight Class 37 No. 37254 'Cardiff Canton' and No. 37099 'Merl Evans 1947-2016' (in top and tail formation) are pictured upon arrival at Taunton on Friday 21st November 2002. The pair of locomotives arrived at Platform 3 while operating 1Z18 15:40 Paignton to Taunton via Bristol East Yard. Upon arrival, they changed direction and returned to London Paddington on the final test diagram of their shift.
