Former EMR-liveried Colas Rail Freight HST powercar No.43274 leads Ex LNER powercar No.43272 north at Beambridge on the 8th April 2022. The pair were operating the Network Rail Mentor test train as 1Z18 16:22 Exeter St Davids - Taunton. The HST had been plagued by late running throughout its operations in the south west, and had to cut out part of its normal diagram in order to make up time. The Exeter - Taunton leg was to allow the test train to re-join its final diagram to London Paddington.

With the evenings slowly drawing out it is possible to extend the hours of photography. At 16:37 on the 14th January 2022 the Network Rail NMT is pictured passing Norton Fitzwarren operating 1Z18 15:39 Paignton - Taunton via Bristol East Yard. The former East Coast powercars No.43290 and No.43299 were formed up with the Network Rail Mk3 set.

Veteran large-logo Class 37/4 No.37402 became the first Class 37 of 2022 to visit Taunton with an early hours visit to Taunton. Direct Rail Services owned No.37402 is pictured at Taunton on the 4th January 2022. The loco operated an overnight test train for Network Rail 3Q06 21:08 Westbury - Kingsland Road via Taunton. The test train arrived at 03:06 and departed at 03:23.

Since operating for Network Rail the front of the powercar has taken quite a battering and its vinyl's are looking rather tired. With the autumn dark nights now firmly in place the evening visit of the Network Rail NMT on Friday 19th November 2021 is now a night shoot. Colas Rail HST powercar (wearing ex-EMR purple with Colas branding) No.43274 is pictured having arrived with parter No.43290. The pair operated 1Z18 15:39 Paignton - Taunton via Bristol East Yard with the Network Rail Test Train (NMT).

Colas Rail has begun to use recently acquired ex-LNER / EMR Class 43 HST power cars on Network Rail test trains. On Saturday 30th October 2021 the PLPR1 Test Train with branded powercars No.43274 and No.43272 are captured at Cat Hill Farm crossing working 1Q40 00:25 Exeter Riverside to Derby RTC via Okehampton. Having positioned down to Exeter the previous evening the test train performed three return trips over the Okehampton branch during the early hours of Saturday morning before returning north in a slightly delayed path.

Having completed overnight testing on the Okehampton Line, Class 37 locomotives No.37612 and No. 37254 'Cardiff Canton' returned north on Monday 27th September 2021. Captured in the low autumn sunlight the pair pass Creech St Michael operating 1Q40 00:30 Exeter Riverside - Derby RTC via Okehampton.

The pair are pictured passing Victory Crossing operating 1Z57 09:38 Derby RTC - Exeter Riverside either end of a Network Rail test train, ready to carry out overnight testing on the newly upgraded Okehampton line.

The test train would then spend Sunday night/ Monday morning carrying out testing on the Crediton - Okehampton line. The Okehampton line is due to open to the public in December 2021. No. 37254 'Cardiff Canton' is pictured at Norton Fitzwarren in 'top and tail' formation with No.37612 while operating 1Z57 09:38 Derby RTC - Exeter Riverside. The train operated via Oxford and Reading with Network Rail test coaches 72612 5981 999868 6264.
