17th April 2021 Colas Rail Freight Class 56 No. 56302 'PECO The Railway Modeller 2016 40 Years' paid the first of two visits to Taunton on the same weekend. Due to the line between Bath Spa and Westbury being closed for engineering work. Colas Class 56 No. 56302 'PECO The Railway Modeller 2016 40 Years' operated 0Z56 12:25 Wembley Yard - Westbury via Bristol Parkway and Taunton. 14th April 2021 GBRf Class 66/7 No.66748 passes Fordgate operating light engine on the 14th April 2021 as 0Z95 08:18 Laira - Long Marston. The loco had delivered four former First Great Western powercars back to Laira the previous day and was returning to Long Marston to collect a second batch, which would return to Laira the same day. The Class 73/9s owned by GB Railfreight were re-built by Wabtec at the Brush Traction works in Loughborough, between 2013 and 2016 and fitted with a more lightweight MTU engine offering around 1600HP. 30th March 2021 GB Railfreight Class 73/9 No.73964 made a rare appearance in the Taunton area on Tuesday 30th March 2021. In glorious spring lighting conditions, No.73964 is captured passing Cats Hill Farm foot crossing near Creech St Michael operating a Colas Rail Freight route learner. 9th October 2020 DRS owned Class 37/4 No. 37425 'Sir Robert McAlpine/ Concrete Bob' returned north through Taunton on Friday 9th October 2020 light engine operating 0Z25 08:16 Plymouth - Norwich. The loco had an extended visit in the southwest after needing a visit to Laira GWR Depot, the loco needed work on the Laira wheel lathe to correct a severe wheel flat which the loco had picked up during its trip south on the 22nd. Having completed the repairs the locomotives then carried out driver route learning trips to Penzance and Paignton. 22nd September 2020 DRS owned Class 37/4 No. 37425 'Sir Robert McAlpine/ Concrete Bob' headed to Devon on Tuesday 22nd September 2020 operating light engine as 0Z60 09:07 Crewe Gresty Bridge - Plymouth. The locomotive is now painted in the stunning former 'Regional Railways' livery which some of the class carried in the mid-nineties when they were used on regional passenger services. 4th September 2020 DCR Class 31 No.31601 was used to haul Network Southeast liveried Class 50 No. 50026 'Indomitable' from Meldon to Derby Gas Works Sidings on the 5th December 2014. The Class 50 (which had been towed to the Dartmoor Railway during November) had suffered a turbocharger problem. The locomotive was later replaced with Nemesis Rail Class 47/7 No.47701 which would make a return to service on the Dartmoor Railway for the Christmas season having been sold by its previous owners. 2nd July 2020 Freightliner Class 66/5 No.66591 passes the Relyon bed factory at Wellington light engine on Thursday 2nd July 2020. The locomotive was operating 0Y07 08:55 Stoke Gifford to Exeter St Davids, one of seven runs through this area. Attached to the rear of the locomotive is the RILA track recording equipment (out of sight in this view). This image may further records the history of the Taunton area, as we understand the long-established Wellington bed manufacturing company has recently been sold by Steinhoff International Holdings.
