As part of the GWR 175 celebrations GWR 4-6-0 'King' No. 6024 'King Edward I' is pictured stabled in Platform 1 at Taunton on the 17th June 2010. The locomotive and supporting 6024 'King Edward I' Preservation Group provided cab visits and information to passengers and enthusiasts at Taunton Station.

15th May 2010
The rare combination of a Western hydraulic and English Electric locomotive was possible on the 15th May 2010. No. D1015 'Western Champion' and No.40145 pass Creech St Michael operating 1Z40 05:20 Crewe - Penzance 'The East Lancs Champion' charter. The tour double headed to Plymouth where the Western changed ends and the pair visited Cornish Branchlines in 'top and tail' formation.

Large logo-liveried Class 40 No.40145 passes Creech St Michael on the 27th June 2009 operating Pathfinder Tours 'The Cornish Explorer' charter. The tour operated as 1Z37 05:47 Portsmouth Harbour - Penzance which was hauled to Westbury with No.37401 where the Class 40 took over for the run to Penzance.

At the end of a busy day on the 12th March 2005, No. 6024 'King Edward I' prepares to do onto shed at Bishops Lydeard. The loco arrived on the West Somerset Railway via Pathfinder Tours 'West Somerset Wanderer'charter. The tour was returned to Chester by BR Class 50 No. 50049 'Defiance'.

EWS Class 37/4 No.37425 rescued a Virgin Trains HST on the last day of the summer timetable in 2004. The locomotive is pictured passing Cogload Junction with No.37425 leading No.43153 and No. 43098 'Walton Castle' working the 1M25 Newquay - Manchester Piccadilly Virgin Trains service.

Porterbrook liveried Class 57/6 No.57601 is pictured at Taunton on 23rd October 2002. The locomotive had been called upon to operate 1A88 16:40 Plymouth - London Paddington instead of the booked HST.

Two LMS Black 5 locomotives No. 45407 'The Lancashire Fusilier' and No.45110 head south through the former Durston Station on the 15th August 1999 hauling 'The Mayflower' charter London Paddington - Plymouth. The steam locomotives hauled the charter from Bristol Temple Meads.

30th October 1997
On the 30th October 1997 Civil Engineers liveried Class 47 No.47331 makes a very rare appearance in the Taunton area operating 7V52 Sellafield - Bridgwater
via Taunton nuclear flasks. Owing to the failure of the ground frame at Bridgwater the train was not able to cross from the down mainline to the up mainline in order to access the unloading facility at Bridgwater. As a result the train was sent to Taunton. Having run around its train in Fairwater Yard the locomotive is seen returning to Bridgwater. The same operation occurred a month later on the 30th of November when 37140 was sent to Taunton for the same reason.

27th February 1997
Dutch Transrail-liveried Class 37 No.37230 assists failed Class 47 No.47847 past Silk Mills Crossing on the 27th February 1997. The Class 47 had failed while operating the 1V46 09:10 Liverpool Lime Street - Plymouth service. The train was cancelled at Taunton and towed south to Plymouth. Class 37 No.37230 is pictured hauling No.47847 as 5V46 Taunton - Plymouth empty coaching stock.

Transrail liveried Class 60 No.60080 is pictured passing 40 Steps, Taunton on the 15th February 1997 hauling 6M68 09:45 Burngullow - Irvine 'Silver Bullets'. At the time this image was taken the Class 60 was part of the Cardiff Canton 'Northern' pool of locomotives and named 'Kinder Scout'.

Civil Engineers liveried Class 33s No.33202 and No.33208 arrive into Bishops Lydeard on the 24th August 1996 with Hertfordshire Railtours 'The Quantock Crompton' charter. The 1Z33 09:00 London Paddington - Minehead worked through to Minehead with the Class 33s leading the train throughout.

Railfreight Metals liveried Class 60 No.60081 'Bleaklow Hill' passes 40 Steps on the 19th August 1995 hauling 6B62 09:40 Burngullow - Alexandra Dock Junction loaded China Clay slurry tanks. The Class 60 became a celebrity locomotive in 2000 when it was repainted into British Railways brunswick green and named 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel' at the Old Oak Common open day.
