The Railway Touring Company returned No. 60163 'Tornado' to the south west for the first time in four years on the 25th May 2025. No. 60163 'Tornado' is pictured accelerating away from its stop at Taunton operating 'The Royal Duchy' charter 1Z33 08:48 Bristol Temple Meads - Par. The charter was allowed to operate with steam powering the train and a Class 47 No.47802 at the rear of the train.

Having visited Devon the previous day and having spent the night on the West Somerset Railway for A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' returned with its support coach on Monday 12th July 2021. The loco is pictured passing 40 Steps operating 5Z37 11:52 Bishops Lydeard - Southall movement.

GWR IET No.802015 passes LNER A1 Peppercorn No. 60163 'Tornado' at Silk Mills while operating 1A81 10:36 Paignton - London Paddington on the 11th July 2021. Tornado had been unable to joint its charter train due to a points failure in Fairwater Yard, which resulted on the tour departing Taunton 103 minutes late.

Steam locomotive 60163 stands on the relief line at the south end of Fairwater Yard unable to move due to a points failure. Passing is the more modern GWR Hitachi IET No.802004 operating 1A92 11:11 Plymouth - London Paddington on the 11th July 2021.

Just as heavy rain starts to fall Peppercorn A1 No. 60163 'Tornado' storms round the curve at Longforth Wellington with the severely delayed 'Royal Duchy' charter to Par. The 1Z31 08:46 Slough – Par arrived at Taunton and entered Fairwater Yard behind No.47813 where the charter was booked for a locomotive change. The Class 47 proceeded light engine ahead of the charter to Par, but a points failure in Fairwater Yard meant Tornado was unable to join the train and leave the yard. The tour finally departed at 13:17 running 106 minutes behind schedule. This was one of the largest delays incurred by a charter in the South West in many years.

A1 Peppercorn No. 60163 'Tornado' departs from a gloomy Taunton on the 11th July 2021 operating the late running 1Z31 08:46 Slough - Par. The Railway Touring Company charter had been delayed at Fairwater Yard by 102 minutes owing to a points failure which was outside their control.

Peppercorn A1 Class 4-6-2 No. 60163 'Tornado' 'Tornado' departs Taunton in vociferous style at the head of 1Z27 Bristol Temple Meads to Kingswear via Bath & Westbury on Sunday 10th September 2017, hauling the 'Torbay Express'. This was by far one of the best departures of Tornado from Taunton which has been seen in recent years, an incredible show of power.

Sunday 23rd July 2017 saw the 'Torbay Express' operate under inclement summer weather conditions. LNER A1 No. 60163 'Tornado' 'Tornado' departs from Taunton on completion of the booked water stop whilst en route with 1Z27 09:10 Bristol Temple Meads to Kingswear as the heavy showers pass through.

Sunday 23rd July 2017 saw the 'Torbay Express' operate under inclement summer weather conditions. LNER A1 No. 60163 'Tornado' 'Tornado' rounds the curve at the end of Silk Mills yard heading for Norton Fitzwarren as the train speeds south for a day on the rather damp Cornish Riviera, whilst en route with 1Z27 09:10 Bristol Temple Meads to Kingswear.

Monday 29th May 2017 saw more LNER action on former GWR territory, when A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' hauled 'The Cornishman' from London Paddington to Penzance. The steam locomotive just beat the rain to the area and is seen passing Cogload Junction hauling the 1Z63 08:02 London Paddington to Penzance charter. Tornado will be spending a summer break at the Bodmin and Wenford Railway over the coming week, and the tour was returned to London by DB Cargo diesel locomotive Class 59/2 No. 59202 'Alan Meadows Taylor - MD Mendip Rail Limited' which was equally rare traction for the return trip.

The final 'Torbay Express' of the season departed Taunton on time at 10:40 on Sunday 11th September 2016. With LNER A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' at the helm, the popular summer charter train has continued to draw in the crowds both to view the steam locomotive and ride behind it. The A1 departs from Taunton with the 1Z27 08:00 Bristol Temple Meads - Kingswear (which operated via Bath and Westbury).

Sunday 4th September 2016 provided a second chance of seeing a steam train passing through the Taunton area. 'The Torbay Express' used LNER A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' to haul the 1Z27 09:15 Bristol Temple Meads to Kingswear. After making its booked servicing stop at Taunton the popular steam locomotive is pictured storming past the former Taunton Cider works through Norton Fitzwarren heading for Kingswear.

Sunday 4th September 2018 provided a second chance of seeing a steam train passing through the Taunton area. 'The Torbay Express' used LNER A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' to haul the 1Z27 09:15 Bristol Temple Meads to Kingswear. This image (also taken at Norton Fitzwarren) was on a 400mm zoom lens from the same bridge as the above shot. the impressive head of steam looking even more powerful in this image.

LNER A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' passed through Taunton on April 2nd 2016 as part of a circular trip from London Victoria to Exeter (via Yeovil) and returned to London via Taunton. The 1Z65 16:31 Exeter St Davids - London Victoria passes Oath on the Somerset levels.

2nd April 2016
LNER A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' is captured about a mile east of Oath on the 2nd April 2016. The locomotive operated 1Z65 16:31 Exeter St Davids - London Victoria 'The Devon Belle' complete with 'M8Y' headcode as a tribute to lifetime steam enthusiast and NRM engineer/support crew member Ray Trowel who passed away during the previous week.
