2nd August 2015 LNER A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' featured on 'The Torbay Express' on Sunday 2nd August 2015. The popular steam locomotive hauled the regular summer diagram seen passing Banklands operating as 1Z28 16:50 Kingswear - Bristol Temple Meads. The second charter on the same day 'The Royal Duchy' was less than successful when SR Bullied No. 34067 'Tangmere' failed to make it up Hemerdon Bank on the return trip from Cornwall. As a result, it's train was towed back to Plymouth by a Class 08 (Rare haulage indeed!) from Laira Depot, before the train was canceled and passengers returned home on a First Great Western HST. The loco and stock were later collected by West Coast Railways Class 47/7 No. 47746 'Chris Fudge 29.7.70 - 22.6.10' and towed back to Bristol under the cover of darkness. (Photo: Bob Tucker)

12th July 2015 The Torbay Express returned to Taunton on Sunday 12th July 2015 with LNER A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' leading the train back to Kingswear in Devon. Tornado is now back in its original outshopped LNER Apple Green livery after recent maintenance. 9th March 2013 LNER A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' visited Taunton for the first time in its new colours on the 9th March 2013, hauling 'The Cathedrals Express' charter the 1Z60 08:06 London Paddington to Plymouth. The charter arrived early into Taunton but was delayed upon its booked departure time of 11:52. As a result the charter from Paddington was held for the 12:17 Cross Country service to overtake at Silk Mills before being allowed to proceed to Devon. 10th March 2012 Saturday 10th March 2012 saw A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' breeze through Taunton with the ‘Cathedrals Express’ charter from London Paddington to Plymouth. After Winter maintenance, the loco was originally planned to work double-headed into Devon with 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' but owing to a recent shunting incident, the loco had to be withdrawn from traffic. Instead, No. 60163 'Tornado' handled the charter solo to Exeter, where DB Schenker provided a Class 66 locomotive to assist the charter over the Devon Banks. 30th May 2009 The 30th May 2009 provided another unique event in Taunton's railway calendar. Each year seems to bring even more variety. The 30th was the turn of LNER A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' to work its first charter south of Bristol through to Minehead. The 'Severn Coast Express' 1Z29 15:34 Gloucester - Minehead drew huge crowds to see the newly built steam locomotive pass through Somerset and The Quantock's to the seaside town of Minehead. The pioneer new build locomotive had proved incredibly popular and worked a one-way charter to the West Somerset Railway where it stayed as a visiting locomotive for a period of time. 30th May 2009 Climbing through Coombe Florey, LNER Peppercorn A1 Class 4-6-2 No. 60163 'Tornado' works the grade towards Crowcombe Heathfield with the 'Severn Coast Express' on Saturday 30th May 2009. The train was operating as 1Z29 15:34 Gloucester to Minehead. The tour originated at Gloucester running via Bristol Temple Meads for Taunton and ultimately Minehead on the West Somerset Railway.
