The full yellow corporate Network Rail New Measurement Train (NMT) visited the south west on Friday 7th March 2025 as part of it's booked testing diagrams. No. 43013 'Mark Carne CBE' and No. 43062 'John Armitt' are pictured passing two of the four drift ploughs based at the Silk Mills end of Fairwater Yard, while operating 1Q18 05:43 Reading Triangle Sidings - Paignton via Penzance.

Colas Rail Freight Class 37 No. 37254 'Cardiff Canton' is pictured at Taunton Station in the early hours of the 26th February 2025. The locomotive as operating Network Rail test train 3Z22 23:48 (Tue) Kingsland Road - Cardiff Taff Vale Sidings via Exeter St Davids. The train called at Taunton twice during the night once from 01:32 - 01:35 and again at 03:49 - 04:05. The loco is pictured in Platform 4 during the second visit of the night returning to Bristol and Cardiff.

Soon to be retired from service and making a second trip through the Taunton area in just eight days is Network Rail DMU No.950001, was captured on Monday 17th February 2025 at Allerford. Running as 2Q08 04:17 Derby R.T.C to Plymouth Park Sidings, the Class 950 track assessment unit was routed via Bath Spa and Westbury taking in Merehead Quarry followed by a trip down to Yeovil Junction, however it didn’t make it through to Plymouth with the diagram terminated short at Exeter Riverside.

Standing in for the booked Network Rail New Measurement Train on the 7th February 2025 were a pair of Class 37 locomotives. No.37610 and No. 37057 'Barbara Arbon' operated in 'top and tail' formation. Having not visited Paignton the 1Z18 15:58 Newton Abbot - Taunton test train. It then continued to Reading direct owing to the line between Taunton and Weston-super-Mare being closed for engineering.

Regional Railways liveried Class 37 No. 37425 'Sir Robert McAlpine/ Concrete Bob' passes Creech St Michael on the 12th December 2024. The loco was operating 5Z11 09:49 Bristol Kingsland Road - Bristol Kingsland Road via Taunton. Upon arrival at Taunton the Network Rail test train reversed (with the DBSO leading) back to Bristol.

A Network Rail test train arrives into Platform 3 at Taunton on the 12th December 2024. Regional Railways liveried Class 37 No. 37425 'Sir Robert McAlpine/ Concrete Bob', the test train was operating 5Z11 09:49 Bristol Kingsland Road - Bristol Kingsland Road via Taunton. At Taunton the train reversed with a DBSO trailer leading back to Bristol.

Making a rare visit to Taunton on the 31st October 2024, HNRC owned Class 37 No.37607 (formerly operated by DRS) arrived at Taunton operating a Network Rail Test Train, the 3Z31 18:00 Bristol Kingsland road - Westbury arrived at Taunton with DBSO 9714 leading and changed direction in Platform 3 with No.37607 then leading back to Westbury via the B&H.

Former LNER East Coast powercars No.43272 and No.43251 climb Whiteball Bank in the pouring rain operating 1Z18 15:39 Paignton - Taunton (via Bristol East Yard).

The Stone-blower was working 6U30 10:16 Bristol Kingsland Road to Bristol Kingsland Road via Exeter New Yard in preparation for overnight engineering works.

Network Rail New Measurement Train carried out its regular testing diagram in the southwest on Friday 3rd May 2024. The 1Z18 15:39 Paignton to Taunton via Bristol Tempe Meads runs northbound through Fordgate, the powercars on this occasion were No. 43062 'John Armitt' and Colas purple-liveried No.43274.

The unique two-car DMU Network Rail test unit numbered No.950001 passed through Taunton on the 1st May 2024. The unit was operating 2Q08 04:13 Bristol Kingsland Road - Plymouth. Having operated via Bath, Westbury, Whatley Quarry, Westbury, Bath Goods Loop, Bristol, and Yatton Loop the test unit is pictured passing the blossoming crab apple tree at Norton Fitzwarren heading south to Plymouth.
