13th October 2023
German operator Rail Adventure maid their maiden visit to Taunton and the southwest on Friday 13th 2023. Rail adventure operates four powercars and a Class 50 for the movement of stock on the UK network. Their reason for heading to Laira is to move redundant off lease Cross Country Mk3 coaching stock for secure storage. After a very heavy downpour No.43484 No.43465 No.43468 and No.43480 are pictured passing Creech St Michael operating as 0Z85 12:47 Wembley Yard - Laira.

10th October 2023
Former Cross Country powercar No.43285 started the next chapter in its operational life on the 10th October 2023. The loan powercar No.43285 operated 'Hornby Style' without a barrier coach as 0Z30 11:50 Laira - Derby RTC. The powercar will be used by Colas for test train work so will be seen at Taunton in the future.

DB Cargo Class 66 No.66023 waggles its way up Whiteball Bank on Saturday 29th July 2023. The loco was returning north while operating 0Z14 10:30 Westbury - Westbury via Par route-leaner. The loco was running 52 minutes ahead of schedule.

DB Cargo operated a light engine route learning trip on Saturday 29th July 2023. No.66023 operated 0Z14 10:30 Westbury - Westbury via Par. The loco is pictured passing Bullplace Farm, Stoke St Gregory, it was sporting its new Kings Coronation livery which was outshopped in June 2023.

BR Blue 'Deltic' No. 55009 'Alycidon' departed light engine back to Barrow Hill on the 12th June 2023. The locomotive had taken part in the successful West Somerset Railway Diesel Gala weekend. With its trademark blue smoke No. 55009 'Alycidon' passes Broomhay Crossing operating as 0Z55 11:13 Bishops Lydeard - Barrow Hill.

East Coast stalwart BR Blue 'Deltic' No. 55009 'Alycidon' (No.D9009) passes over western region metals at the classic Cogload Junction Flyover on the 7th June 2023. The Deltic Preservation Society locomotive was in transit operating as 0Z55 12:41 Barrow Hill - Bishops Lydeard in preparation for the West Somerset Railway Diesel Gala weekend.

27th May 2023
West Coast Railways Class 47 locomotives No.47802 and No.47812 pass through Creech St Michael on the 27th May 2023. The pair were operating 0Z39 09:40 Bristol Temple Meads - Norton Fitzwarren. The locos had operated the diesel leg of 'The South Devon Explorer' charter to Bristol before shadowing the train as far as Taunton. The two West Coast Railways locomotives then returned the diesel leg from Taunton later in the evening.

In a move akin to something you may witness on a model railway layout Colas Rail Freight operated a single HST powercar move south on the 2nd May 2023. No.43272 operated 0Z20 11:48 Derby RTC - Laira where a power unit swap will take place, before a possible repaint into Colas colours. The unique move is pictured passing Norton Fitzwarren.

Running as a single powercar No.43272 passes through Creech St Michael on the 2nd May 2023. The loco was operating as 0Z20 11:48 Derby RTC - Laira where it will receive a new power unit.

Intercity Executive liveried powercar No. 43184 'Laira Diesel Depot' leads classmate No. 43366 'HST 40' north at Cogload Junction on Saturday 8th April 2023. The pair of back to back powercars were operating 0Z43 15:30 Laira - Neville Hill to carry out route learning in the north.

Following the annual test run of the Network Rail Taunton-based snow ploughs DRS (Direct Rail Services) operated Class 37 locomotives No. 37419 'Carl Haviland 1954-2012' and Europhoenix /ROG No. 37601 'Perseus' depart the southwest returning north past Broomhay Crossing running as 0Z22 15:20 Fairwater Yard to Crewe Gresty Bridge on Sunday 5th February 2023.

Colas Rail Freight continued their route learning trips in the southwest on the 2nd February 2023. Class 37 No.37116 is pictured passing Norton Fitzwarren light engine operating 0Z37 11:00 Exeter Riverside - Derby RTC.

30th January 2023
Colas Rail Freight Class 37 No.37116 became the first Class 37 of 2023 to visit Taunton on the 30th January 2023. The locomotive was operating a series driver training/ route learning trips ahead of further rail strikes later in the week. The light engine loco move operated as 0Z21 09:01 Bristol Temple Meads - Taunton Goods Reception. The loco arrived from Bristol Temple Meads, before reversing and heading for Westbury, Theale and Reading before returning back to Taunton 120 minutes ahead of schedule at 16:27, where the loco stabled in the sidings behind Platform 1 for the night.

Freightliner Class 66/4 No.66416 arrives into Taunton light engine on the 23rd January 2023. The loco arrived operating 0C46 08:18 Stoke Gifford - Fairwater Yard.

Freightliner kicked the year off with a splash of colour on the 5th January 2023 by moving four of its locomotives from Christmas storage. Freightliner Powerhaul liveried No.66416 leads No. 66415 'You Are Never Alone', BNo.66589 and No. 66506 'Crewe Regeneration' past Broomhay Crossing operating as 0A66 12:00 Fairwater Yard - Stoke Gifford. The locomotive movement was one of only two trains which passed through Taunton that day due to the national rail strike which had seen all passenger services cancelled.

Standing in the twilight at Taunton on the 12th September 2022. Locomotive Services Ltd 'Black 5' No. 45231 'The Sherwood Forester' had operated light engine without a support coach as 0Z31 12:59 Southall - Bishops Lydeard where it would join with Britannia for a charter the next day. The loco is pictured paused at Taunton waiting to head onto the West Somerset Railway.
