A pair of GWR Class 150/2 units made a rare trip to Taunton on the 30th March 2026 under the cover of darkness. No.150207 and No.150247 teamed up to operate 2M73 21:09 Paington - Taunton. The service normally operates through to Bristol, but due to overnight engineering work, passengers were transferred onto road transport for their onward journey.

A rare daylight appearance for a GWR two-car Class 165 'Turbo' occurred on the 4th March 2026. No. 165135 is pictured at Taunton, operating 2C71 10:00 Cardiff Central - Exeter St Davids stopping service, having taken over from an IET at Bristol. The unit later returned from Exeter, heading back to Bristol.

GWR Hitachi IET No. 800036 'Dr Paul Stephenson OBE' is pictured waiting at Norton Fitzwarren on the 27th February 2026. The unit was operating 1Z82 16:50 Bishops Lydeard - Bristol Temple Meads (Although only visiting Norton Fitzwarren Triangle), having earlier worked between Taunton and Goodrington Sidings. Passing adjacent was No.220008 operating 1E63 16:27 Exeter St Davids - Newcastle.

One of the two GWR Night Riviera Sleeper sets visited Norton Fitzwarren to reverse on Friday, 27th February 2025. No. 57604 'Pendennis Castle' and No.57312 were operated as 5Z57 07:27 Reading Traincare Depot - Fairwater Yard and was crewed by GBRf.

The Somerset Levels continue to hold vast amounts of flood water, as this image recorded on 27th February clearly shows. Passing Oath, GWR Class 57s No.57312 AND No. 57604 'Pendennis Castle' head east across the flooded plains running as the 5Z58 12:28 Fairwater Yard to Reading Traincare Depot. Some roads around this location still remain closed, as does Moor Lane between North Curry and West Lyng, which remains seriously deep below the surface of the floodwater.

With coupling doors wide open and the driver on the phone, GWR Hitachi Class 800 Set No.800011 and No. 800035 'Naomi Betts/ Lizz Gallagher' pass through Creech St Michael heading for the capital while assigned to GWR service 1A78 07:10 Penzance to London Paddington. This slightly different composition from Creech was captured on Tuesday, 17th February 2026.

Viewed from Creech St Michael over-bridge, the last full Castle/HST set leaves the West Country for the final time on passing the former site of Creech St Michael Halt on 17th February 2026. With name plates removed and de-branded, Class 43 power cars No.43092 and No.43093 (Formerly Cromwell's Castle and Berkeley Castle) head north, operated by Rail Adventure running as the 5Q43 09:00 Laira to Mid-Norfolk Railway for storage. Just two solitary GWR power cars (No.43088 and No.43156) now remain at Laira.
