3rd June 2026 Taunton Castle returns. A superb addition to Taunton Station was fixed in pride of place at Taunton Station this week. One of the two nameplates carried by No. 43186 'Taunton Castle' before it retired from service with GWR has been lovingly restored, polished, painted, and mounted, and will be on permanent display in the lobby area of Taunton Station for all to enjoy. The powercar No. 43186 'Taunton Castle', which wore the nameplate, was a British Rail Class 43 HST power car 43186 'Taunton Castle' and had a distinguished career spanning over four decades. Built at BREL Crewe Works in 1982, it notably served on the Western Region, operating for years as Sir Francis Drake before being renamed Taunton Castle in 2021.
