Heritage liveried Class 31 No.31190 spent the weekend stabled in Platform 1 at Taunton. The loco was used to tow a Volker Rail Crane from Toton Yard to Westbury on the 17th August, and arrived at Taunton light engine late on the 17th August. The loco then returned to Washwood Heath on the 19th August 2013. The loco is pictured under 40 Steps waiting to depart as 0Z31 09:10 Taunton - Washwood Heath.

Nemesis Rail collected their Class 47 No.47375 from the Dartmoor Railway on the 3rd June 2013, having spent most of last week attached to a Swedish Rail Vacuum, Class 31 No.31190 stabled in Taunton's Platform 1 for the weekend before continuing to Devon on Monday morning. No.31190 and No.47375 are seen passing Bathpool with the return 0Z32 12:10 Meldon Quarry to Burton on Trent light engine movement.

Friday 15th March 2013 provided a daylight appearance for at Network Rail test train through Taunton in preparation for some nocturnal operations in Devon. Class 31 No.31233 propelled the 3Z02 09:04 Bristol High Level Siding - Exeter Riverside passing Taunton at 10:30. The colorful combination was headed by DBSO No.9701 and was formed of test coaches 72612 & 999605. The 3Z02 is seen at 40 Steps, Taunton heading South.

21st February 2013
DCR Class 31 locomotives No.31452 and No.31190 departed Taunton on the 21st February 2013 heading for Doncaster West Yard. The pair first exited their overnight accommodation in Platform 1 heading to 40 Steps before forming 0Z31 09:25 Taunton - Doncaster. The pair are seen smoking their way towards 40 Steps before changing direction with No.31190 leading north.

Wednesday 20th February 2013 saw two veteran Class 31 locomotives (dating from 1959) stabled in Platform 1 for the night. DCR sent No.31190 to Meldon Quarry to collect classmate No.31452 before operating as 0Z32 16:13 Meldon Quarry - Taunton and recessing at in Platform 1 overnight. 31452 had used by the Dartmoor Railway during Christmas 2012 to haul Polar Express charters. The two locomotives departed Taunton the next day heading to Doncaster.

DCR Class 31 No.31601 is pictured stabled in Platform 1 at Taunton on Friday 16th November 2012. The loco has arrived back light engine operating as 0Z31 17:20 Meldon Quarry - Taunton (changing direction at Exeter Riverside Yard). The loco stabled at Taunton for the night before returning to Bristol the next day.

BARS/DCR moved a convoy of locomotives from their base at Burton on Trent to Meldon Quarry on the 16th November 2012 in preparation for Christmas Specials on the Dartmoor Railway. BR Class 31 No.31601 provided the transport for classmate 31452 and repaired BR Blue Class 47 No.47375. The 0Z34 11:00 Burton Wetmore Sidings - Okehampton convoy was held at Fairwater Yard due to a broken rail at Whiteball (which caused severe delays for most of the afternoon). 31452 and 47375 will take part in Christmas 'Polar Express' services on the Dartmoor Railway during the festive season, while the current dispute over 47701 'Waverley' (also based on the line) continues.

A Network Rail test train spent some time stabled in Platform 1 at Taunton on the 31st October 2012. Network Rail liveried Class 31 No.31465 arrived in the early hours of the 31st from Didcot before working the 3Q63 11:21 Taunton to Exeter DMU Depot to refuel the locomotive. Later in the evening it then worked the 3Q63 19:32 Taunton back to Didcot Yard. The Class 31 is pictured in Platform 1.

Network Rail Class 31 No.31465 is pictured stabled in Platform 1 at Taunton on the 31st October 2012 with a Network Rail test train. The loco has arrived in the early hours by way of operating 3Q63 00:26 Didcot Yard - Taunton, before leaving the same night operating as 3Q63 19:38 Norton Fitzwarren Junction - Didcot Yard.

After a stock transfer from Yeovil Junction to Okehampton on Monday 24th September, No. 31602 'Devon Diesel Society' returned to Taunton operated as 5Z32 19:15 Okehampton - Taunton. Having dropped off three Mk2 coaches at the Dartmoor Railway (6181,6002,5920) were removed, while 3354, 3425, 3402 - Virgin Livery & 9492 FGW returned to Taunton. Unfortunately 31602 'Devon Diesel Society' was failed at Taunton on the 25th and was unable to work forward to Barrow Hill with the remaining 4 coaches. No. 31602 'Devon Diesel Society' is seen at Taunton in a newly created scene, which now allows a clear view of the Fairwater Yard headshunt, after the removal of the former Taunton shed, in the background No.66622 can be seen shunting the HOBC set into Faiwater Yard.

Nemesis Rail moved a selection of hideously mouldy coaches from open storage at Yeovil Junction to similar open storage at Okehampton on the 24th September 2012. The former Network Rail Class 31 No.31602 hauled former mainline Mk2 coaches (6181,6002,5920,3354,3425,3402 - Virgin Livery & 9492 FGW) through Taunton at 14:20 with the 5Z31 13:15 Yeovil to Okehampton. The grime ridden stock move passes Broomhay Crossing near Bathpool.

British American Railways delivered another converted Mk3 coach No.45213 to Laira Depot from Kilmarnock late on the 22nd August. The Southbound train was hauled by HNRC Class 20 locomotives as far as Washwood Heath before being switched for a pair of Class 31s, passing Taunton at 22:45 heading south. On the 23rd August 2012, veteran Class 31 locomotives No.31601 and No.31602 make a rare numerical and colourful combination at Banklands (near Cogload Junction) returning north with the 5Z56 12:09 Laira - Washwood Heath with FGW barrier vehicles in tow.

Having delivered a Mk3 HST coach to First Great Western the previous day, veteran Class 31s No. 31602 'Devon Diesel Society' and No.31601 plus two barrier vehicles worked 5Z56 12:09 Laira - Washwood Heath on the 23rd August 2012 and are pictured on the downward grade passing Beam Bridge on Thursday 23rd August 2012 returning to the midlands.

A rare combination of a Network Rail Class 31 and Direct Rail Services Class 37 passes 40 Steps on the 2nd March 2012. No.31602 'Driver Dave Green' was leading 1Q13 07:00 Exeter Riverside to Derby RTC with DRS Class 37 No.37688 at the rear of the train, having visited Castle Cary, Honiton, Exeter, and back to Honiton before making their way north.

Taken at twilight at Minehead Station, after a quick break BR Blue Class 31 No.31106 (now wearing the Butlins Express headboard) prepares to return to Taunton on the 7th October 2009. With fish and chips on board the train the crew prepare to leave as 4Z07 19:32 Minehead - Didcot Yard with the Network Rail test train.

In the fading light BR Blue Class 31 No.31106 pushes towards Minehead at Blue Anchor on the 7th October 2009. The loco was operating a Network Rail test train as 4Z07 14:57 Exeter TMD - Minehead with a DBSO leading the way to Minehead.

Network Rail Class 31 No.31105 glows in the evening sunlight at Cogload Junction on the 6th May 2009 while operating 4Q08 17:38 Exeter St Davids - Bristol Kingsland Road track testing train. The test train operated via Newport, Swindon, and Bristol Temple Meads overnight finally arriving at Kingsland Road at 02:10 the next day.

Wessex Pink livered Class 31 No.31601 leads an evening Network Rail Test train on the West Somerset Railway on April 8th 2008. The Class 31 ' top & tailed' the 4Z08 17:14 Taunton - Minehead with partner No.31233. The colourful train is pictured here passing through Leigh Woods on the West Somerset Railway heading for the end of the line at Minehead before returning to Taunton.
