Teardrop HST

First Great Western HST No.43165 is pictured at Taunton on the 25th January 2003 having arrived from London Paddington.

The diagram terminates at Taunton before returning empty to St Philips Marsh depot. No.43165 is pictured with the white tear drop First Great Western livery which had a white front end to the powercar.

Flask to Devonport

The secretive movements of the Nuclear Flask are seldom published owing tot he security of the payload.

On 2003 a chance sighting of the train allowed enthusiasts to witness the working arrive at Taunton for a change of crew before continuing south. EWS Class 66 No.66028 is pictured at Taunton on the 23rd January 2003 making a booked crew changed at Taunton. The loco was operating 6X50 Crewe - Devonport conveying one flask wagon and two inspection saloons for security personnel.

New Ginsters Livery

Brand new 'Ginsters' liveried Class 158 No.158841 leads Regional Railways Wales and Borders liveried No.158819 south at Cogload Junction on the 18th January 2003.

The pair were operating a Carmarthen - Penzance service.

First Great Wester 'Teardrop'

The First Great Western 'Teardrop' livery variation will soon be coming to an end, after another livery variation will replace the white front end nose with a FirstGroup purple version.

White has always shown the dirt and daily grime build up on the front of HST powercars, and this short lived livery has resulted in powercars in a program to refresh the front end look of the FGW sets. On the 14th January 2003 we recorded two such examples still operating with the white front end version at Taunton Station.

Winter Engineers

Double-headed Class 66 locomotives No.66233 and No.66122 pass Cogload Junction on a frosty winters morning on the 5th January 2003.

The pair were returning to Wiltshire as 6W15 Liskeard - Westbury engineers.

New Year Crisp Morning

On a cold and frosty morning, First Great Western HST set No.43133 and No.43144 head south at Cogload Junction on the 5th January 2003 working a Westcountry bound passenger service from London Paddington.

First Great Western HST formed of No. 43170 'Chepstow Castle' and No.43012 pass Cogload Junction on the 5th January 2003 operating the 09:10 Plymouth - London Paddington service.

EWS Class 66 No.66079 is pictured at Taunton Station on the 4th January 2003.

The loco arrived with an overnight engineers. The Engineers paused at Taunton for a pathing stock while operating as 6W55 Westbury - Cogload Junction via Exeter Riverside Yard.
