The railway industry is always in a state of change, constantly developing, so from time to time we like to take a look back at periods of time to highlight just how the railway scene has developed and changed. 2002 was 18 years ago, a period of time when Virgin Cross Country was beginning to introduce their Voyager fleet replacing locomotive-hauled services, mail trains were still being operated by a mix of Class 67 and 47 locomotives, and Wessex Trains were still operating local and regional services prior to being merged into First Great Western.
Most importantly digital cameras were still in their infancy, although there was a growing interest the megapixel ratings were still too low at this point, it would be another two years before the 35mm film would begin to lose out to the progress of technology. All the images shown below are scanned from 35mm slide film taken on a Minolta 404Si SLR. We hope you enjoy the selection of images.
