16th September 1984 A rare visit of a British Rail Class 40 No.40079 took place on the 15th September 1984. The locomotive worked 'The Devon Belle' from Newport to Paignton with the tour originating in Swansea. The 07:00 Swansea - Paignton is pictured approaching Taunton East Junction with the charter in tow. The Class 40 later returned with the 18:15 Paignton - Swansea where another locomotive took over the train once it reached South Wales. (Photo: Paul Clarke)
