Former Scottish Class 47/7 No.47717 called at Taunton on the 23rd July 1994 operating summer passenger service 1V46 06:05 Glasgow Central - Paignton. The Class 47 had an interesting history, it started life as D1940 operating from sheds around the midlands, before having spells at Landore Laira, Old Oak Common and Bristol Bath Road in the 1970s. From 1984 - 1988 the locomotive was sent to Scotland to work on the push-pull services between Edinburgh and Glasgow. In 1988 the loco returned to Crewe as part of the British Rail Parcels locomotive fleet but was quickly seconded to the Network Southeast West of England division in 1991 for use on the Exeter - Waterloo services (hence the Network Southeast branding in this image). This operational duty lasted until 1993 when the locomotive was returned to Rail Express Systems (RES) Parcels duties. Often RES locomotives would be used in the summer months to provide traction for additional passenger services, as illustrated in this image. No.47717 lasted in traffic until 1998 and was subsequently scrapped as EMR Kingsbury in 2007.

The meaning of 'Bubble' was very much a different thing in 1991 compared to 2021. British Rail Class 122 'Bubble Car' No.109 (55009) stands at Taunton on the 25th March 1991. The unit had been held at Taunton while operating a Bristol Bath Road to Exeter St Davids empty stock transfer. In the adjacent platform No. 43058 'Loch Eil' waits to depart while operating 1V48 10:58 Liverpool Lime Street - Plymouth service. As an added point of interest the Class 122 was one of many former British Rail units to make it into preservation, at first spending many years at the Mid Norfolk Railway before being moved to the Great Central Railway in late 2020 having been purchased for restoration by the Renaissance Railcars Group who are based on the GCR.
