Nocturnal activities at Taunton Station are rarely recorded in the dead of night, however on the 12th April 2014 First Great Western's Class 57/6 No. 57604 'Pendennis Castle' is pictured on the Night Riviera sleeper service from Penzance to London Paddington. The 1A40 21:45 Penzance - London Paddington calls into Taunton at 01:42 in the morning on route to London.

Following the failure of the First Great Western Night Riviera Sleeper service to London Paddington the previous day No. 57603 'Tintagel Castle' hauled the 5A40 07:55 Penzance to Old Oak Common empty Night Riviera stock through Marlands on Monday 15th July 2013.

6th July 2009
The First Great Western 'Night Riviera' sleeper service was in trouble again during the 5th / 6th July 2009. Having failed at Burngullow while operating the 1A40 21:15 Penzance - London Paddington the train was towed to Plymouth by a pair of FGW Powercars and was subsequently terminated. Passengers were transferred onto an HST for the rest of their journey to London. In a rare daylight outing Class 57 No. 57605 'Totnes Castle' leads No. 57602 'Restormel Castle' at Cogload Junction hauling 3Z70 15:30 Laira - Old Oak Common empty sleeper coaching stock north on Monday 6th July 2009.
