No. 47810 'Crewe Diesel Depot' and No.47830 operated in top and tail formation throughout. The pair are pictured passing Oath operating as 1Z07 06:00 Southend Central - Kingswear.

The latest Belmond Britannic Explorer luxury train visit crosses the Somerset Levels at Oath on 1st May 2026. Dedicated Britannic loco No. 66748 'St Michaels Mount' leads the 1V01 15:48 London Victoria to Bishops Lydeard with GB Railfreight No. 66744 'Heart of Wales' attached at the rear of the train. This was day 1 of the four-day luxury land cruise to the West Country.

Colas Rail Freight Class 70 locomotives No.70802 and No.70803 pass Wick to the east of Oath on Easter Saturday, 4th April 2026. The pair were delivering new concrete sleepers and fresh ballast to the work site near Bruton. The train operating as 6F07 08:29 Westbury - Bruton via Bristol and Taunton.

Colas Rail Freight Class 70/8 No.70803 passes over the Somerset Levels at Oath on Good Friday, 3rd April 2026. The loco was operating the first of many engineers' trains heading to East Somerset Junction over the course of the Easter Weekend for track renewals. The loco operated 6F01 13:19 Westbury - East Somerset Junction via Bristol and Taunton with a rake of empty track panel wagons for loading.

The Somerset Levels continue to hold vast amounts of flood water, as this image recorded on 27th February clearly shows. Passing Oath, GWR Class 57s No.57312 AND No. 57604 'Pendennis Castle' head east across the flooded plains running as the 5Z58 12:28 Fairwater Yard to Reading Traincare Depot. Some roads around this location still remain closed, as does Moor Lane between North Curry and West Lyng, which remains seriously deep below the surface of the floodwater.

The three locomotives were returning north after attending the South Devon Railway Diesel Gala weekend, operating a s0M49 10:50 Buckfastleigh - Willesden DC Rail Sidings.

Having made its first visit to Soemrset, Devon and Cornwall over the weekend. GBRf Class 66/7 No. 66744 'Heart of Wales' passes over the Somerset Levels at Oath on Sunday 31st August 2025 in top and tail formation with No. 66748 'St Michaels Mount'. The Britannic Explorer was returning east as 1Z60 08:45 Fowey Dock - Bruton where the train would stable overnight on the East Somerset Railway.

A very rare early morning treat for those who were struggling to sleep with the hot weather was a rare daylight appearance of the GWR 'Night Riviera' service. Sadly the train had failed the previous night and required a tow back to Reading in order to position the set for the next nights service. Recently returned to traffic after a major overhaul No. 57604 'Pendennis Castle' provides a tow for failed No. 57602 'Restormel Castle' passing Oath Farm operating as 5Z50 05:00 Plymouth - Reading Traincare Depot. With not a cloud to be seen as GWR Hitachi Bi-mode Class 802 Set No.802106 wearing ‘Paddington in Peru’ livery passes Oath at speed on the 7th April 2025. The nine-car unit was working 1A87 13:55 Paignton to London Paddington. The special Paddington livery is soon to be removed from this unit so capture Paddington while you can on the GWR network.

Unusually not heading for London Paddington, GWR Hitachi IET Class 802 No.802106 "PADDINGTON IN PERU" is captured crossing the Somerset Levels at Oath on the 17th November 2023. The celebrity bi-mode Intercity Express was operating 1Z72 09:15 Plymouth to London Euston, the train diverted owing to London Paddington being closed for HS2 engineering work to take place.

Returning with empty auto-ballasters GBRF No. 66765 'Julie Garn' is captured crossing the Somerset Levels at Oath running as the 6G72 (Mon) 20:58 Westbury to Westbury via Penzance engineers. Having worked westbound the previous evening for a ballast drop in Cornwall, the return run passed through the Taunton area in the glorious Autumn sunshine on the following morning of 12th November 2024.

The southwest based RHTT (Rail Head Treatment Train) circuit continues to be covered EWS-liveried No.66179 and DB Cargo Red No.66154, they pictured here passing Oath on 12th November 2024. For reasons unclear, on this occasion the Westbury to Salisbury leg of the 3S13 was omitted with the return westbound run starting as 3S13 11:19 Westbury to St Blazey.

The Midland Pullman HST heads east at Oath on Saturday 31st August 2024. No. 43046 'Geoff Drury 1930-1999' and No. 43049 'Neville Hill' made a make an unusual daytime eastbound appearance across the Somerset Levels, this beautifully turned-out train operated as 1Z43 08:00 Penzance to Bath Spa ‘The Bath Spa Pullman’ before later returning to Cornwall with guests having enjoyed an afternoon in break in Bath.

Friday 19th April 2024 saw the end of Class 59 dominance on the Freightliner operated 6C27/6C28 Exeter stone working with the appearance of Class 66/5 No. 66532 'P&O Nedlloyd Atlas'. Returning the empties, No. 66532 'P&O Nedlloyd Atlas' is captured at Oath, crossing the Somerset Levels with 6C28 12:48 Exeter Riverside to Westbury aggregate empties.
