Freightliner Class 66-6 No.66604 is pictured at Taunton Station in the misty conditions on the 7th March 2026. No.66604 operated 6Y97 20:08 Westbury Yard - Bruton with a rail delivery train. The loco was scheduled to run around in Fairwater Yard, but a points failure meant Taunton Station was used instead.

2nd February 2026
A Class 59/1 made a welcome return to Somerset and Devon on the 2nd February 2026. No. 59102 'Village of Chantry' operated light engine from Merehead Quarry early in the day to collect a rake of stored aggregate wagons from Exeter Riverside Yard. No. 59102 'Village of Chantry' is pictured climbing Whiteball Bank with 40 wagons in tow, measuring 1988 feet with a trailing load of 971 tonnes (empty). The loco was operating as 6C28 12:48 Exeter Riverside - Merehead.

In driving rain, Freightliner Class 66/5 No.66561 passes the former site of Creech St Michael Halt with a late-running consist of sleeper flats and HOBC wagons on 20th January 2026. The 6Z20, departing Fairwater Yard at 09:54, was overdue by approximately 94 minutes at this point. However, the lost time had been recovered upon reaching Uffington, with a recorded 3-minute early arrival at Hinksey. The movement operated to clear another rake of wagons from Fairwater Yard to clear more room for the overnight servicing of GWR stock during the forthcoming engineering blockage to replace a rail bridge near Tavistock Junction.

On another grotty winter's day, Freightliner Class 66/9 No.66953 arrived at Taunton to collect a take of stored concrete sleeper wagons from Fairwater Yard on the 15th December 2025. No.66953 shunted wagons out of Fairwater Yard using he north end head shunt before forming 4Y90 09:54 Fairwater Yard - Kinksley Sidings.

2nd December 2025
With a heavy downpour heading eastwards in the background and a rainbow over Fairwater Yard, Freightliner Class 66 locomotives No.66569 and No.66509 head south through Norton Fitzwarren on the 2nd December 2025. The pair were operating 6F05 14:11 Westbury - Penwithers Junction, with fresh ballast for unloading in Cornwall.

Freightliner Class 66/5 No.66509 is pictured paused at Taunton on the 30th November 2025. No.66509 operated in top and tail formation with No.66543 as 6F02 16:35 Westbury - Redruth taking the first of many engineers trains through to Cornwall for a week-long blockade for track replacement in Cornwall.

Freightliner Class 66/5 No.66509 is pictured on the rear of 6Y97 06:31 St Erth - Westbury, having arrived at Taunton with partner No.66416 on the 18th November 2025. The pair were returning north after dropping long welded rail on the St Ives line.

Freightliner completed the rail drop on the St Ives branch overnight on the 17th/18th November and returned north on the 18th November 2025. No.66416 and No.66509 operated 6Y97 06:31 St Erth - Westbury. The train was held at Taunton between 11:39 (where it was running 45 minutes early) and 12:56.

3rd November 2025
Freightliner moved a second rake of heavily graffiti-ed aggregate wagons for storage on the 3rd November 2025, following a downturn in stone output. No.66588 operated 6Z27 08:21 Westbury - Exeter Riverside, where the wagons will be stored until required for use again. This is the second rake which has been moved in recent weeks, pictured passing Silk Mills shortly after 9 am.

Freightliner moved a rake of heavily graffitied wagons from the Mendip Quarries on the 20th October 2025 to Exeter Riverside for storage. It was once unthinkable that so much graffiti could be found on UK wagona in the UK but there is an epedemic sweeping the country raising questions about yard and railway security as a whole. No.66590 is picutered passing Norton Fitzwarren operating 6Z27 07:30 Whatley Quarry - Exeter Riverisde where the wagons were put into storage.

Freightliner coloured Freightliner Class 66 No.66517 and No. 66502 'Basford Hall Centenary 2001' are pictured at Taunton on the 23rd April 2025. The pair were returning to Wiltshire from an overnight ballast drop which operated as 6Y60 21:24 Westbury Yard - Westbury Yard via Eggesford.

The loco was hauling the final 6C28 12:48 Exeter Riverside - Whatley Quarry empties brining to an end a flow which has operated for 28 years on an as required basis.

With headlights ablaze, Aggregate Industries liveried Class 59/0 No. 59001 'Yeoman Endeavour' makes light work of it heavy load up Whiteball Bank on the 21st March 2025. The loco was captured at dawn operating 6C27 06:10 Westbury - Exeter Riverside. At this point in time the train had just five diagrams left before the flow ceased on Friday 28th.

Heading to Cornwall on 3rd March 2025, Freightliner Class 66/5 locomotives No.66531 and No.66504 pass a cold and frosty Allerford with a mixed rake of auto-ballasters. This working was connected to the upgrading of the Newquay branch, running as the 6Y47 07:27 Westbury to Goonbarrow Junction.
