Freightliner Class 66 No.66531 exits from Fairwater Yard on Saturday 16th September 2023 operating in top and tail formation with No.66511. The pair were operating as 6X37 18:33 Fairwater Yard - Ruscombe with the Network Rail High Output Ballast Cleaner.

Freightliner Class 66 No.66509 returns north from Exeter Riverside after a 60-mile diversion on its route on Saturda,y 16th September 2023 at 22:27. The loco was returning as 6Y40 17:14 Westbury - Weston-super-Mare engineers.

Freightliner orange Class 66/5 No.66509arrives into Taunton on Saturday, 16th September 2023 while operating 6Y40 17:14 Westbury - Weston-super-Mare via Exeter Riverside. The train conveyed loaded wagons of sand and a batch of empty wagons for loading at the rear of the train.

In worsening weather conditions, Freightliner Class 66 No.66509 slowly passes Norton Fitzwarren pulling away from a pathing stop on the relief lines at Taunton on Saturday, 16th September 2023. The loco was operating as 6Y40 17:14 Westbury - Weston-super-Mare via Exeter Riverside (some 68 miles in the wrong direction!). The train was loaded with sand ready for unloading at the work site between Weston-super-Mare and Bristol.

Passing Cogload Junction in the late summer sun on Sunday 3rd September 2023, Freightliner Class 66 No.66511 operates in top and tail formation with partner No.66568. The pair were returning to Taunton operating as 6X37 06:00 Slough West - Fairwater Yard having been out on overnight ballast cleaning duties.

29th August 2023
In a very rare occurrence on the 29th August 2023 Freightliner Class 66/6 No. 66619 'Derek W. Johnson MBE' failed at Whiteball while operating 6C27 05:11 Westbury – Exeter Riverside loaded aggregate. The locomotive blocked the down mainline for two and half hours causing lengthy delays to early morning services. The nearest locomotive and driver was at Fairwater Yard. Once a driver booked on at 07:30 No.66568 was dispatched light engine to clear the line. No. 66619 'Derek W. Johnson MBE' makes a somewhat undignified return on the rear of 6C28 pictured on the rear of the returning service with the partly unloaded train at Longlands Farm, Wellington. No.66568 towed the stricken set back as 6C28 15:57 Exeter Riverside – Whatley Quarry. NOCAPTION

Having been loaded with fresh ballast from the Westbury virtual quarry, Freightliner Class 66/5 No.66568 passes Creech St Michael on Friday 5th August. The loco was returning to Taunton operating as 6C73 12:18 Westbury - Fairwater Yard on Friday 4th August 2023. Upon arrival the HOBC portion would be formed back into the full HOBC set. NOCAPTION

18th June 2023
Freightliner Class 66 No.66550 is pictured within the Fairwater Yard complex on Sunday 18th June 2023 having arrived with partner No.66568. The pair operated the Network Rail Track Renewal Train as 6X08 08:40 Fairwood Junction - Fairwater Yard. The TRT set is going into long term storage which will leave just the Ballast Cleaning and High Output operations running. Image taken by trained and qualified personnel.

Freightliner Class 66 No.66556 and No.66510 wade through the undergrowth while entering Fairwater Yard on the 2nd June 2023. The pair were returning from overnight track renewals operating as 6X04 04:25 Morton Cutting - Fairwater Yard.

Catching the last rays of evening sunlight Freightliner Class 66 No.66510 and No.66556 cross the Somerset Levels on the 27th May 2023. The pair were operating 6X04 20:22 Fairwater Yard - Newbury to carry out overnight track renewals before returning to Taunton next morning.

Powering across the Somerset Levels at dusk on the 1st April 2024 brings a rare visitor to the south west. No.66510 leads No.66591 eastbound at Oath while operating 6X04 18:31 Fairwater Yard - Tackley with the Network Rail Track Replacement Train. The set will carry out track renewal work overnight before returning to Fairwater Yard the following Monday Morning

Despite being a regular working in the Taunton area; the Fairwater Yard – Bishops Lydeard trip working conveying spent ballast from the Network Rail HOBC set is rarely captured because of the short distance of a mile over which it travels. On the 30th March 2023, No.66591 and No.66510 are pictured arriving back into Fairwater Yard operating 6C76 12.49 Bishops Lydeard - Fairwater Yard with two HOBC wagons and an equipment container.

Having failed the previous night at Par with the northbound Night Riviera service. The train was rescued by a pair of back to pack powercars and towed to Plymouth where the loco hauled service was cancelled and passengers transferred onto a GWR IET. The stock from the previous night was moved to Reading Traincare Depot on Wednesday 8th March 2023. No.57305 leads dead No. 57605 'Totnes Castle' through Silk Mills after overnight snowfall, operating as 5R50 10:38 Plymouth - Reading Traincare Depot, the train passes No. 66415 'You Are Never Alone' which was shunting at Fairwater Yard at the time.

With heavy snowfall experienced across the southwest on the 8th March 2023 this image was captured at Wellington in the thick of the freak weather event. Freightliner Class 66 No.66605 rounds the curve at Wellington hauling 6C27 04:18 Whatley Quarry - Exeter Riverside loaded aggregate.
