Images from the CL Caddy Collection.
C L Caddy was a well known south west based photographer who is believed to have lived in Weymouth. We understand that he passed away around 2018 and many of his superb original images have been offered for sale since. This gallery hosts some of the images which now reside with Taunton Trains for future generations to enjoy.

31st August 1986 provided the rare sight of Class 20s passing through the Taunton area operating F&W Tours/ Pathfinder Tours 'The Chopper Topper (Re-run). British Rail Blue Class 20s No.20124 and No.20094 are pictured at Cogload Junction running wrong line because of the Cogload Junction cement derailment which had occurred in the previous days. The 1Z26 Wolverhampton - Penzance charter also visited the Parkandillack Branch during its visit to Cornwall.

Grubby British Rail Class 50 No. 50001 'Dreadnought' passes 40 Steps, Taunton on the 6th May 1978 hauling a ten coach passenger service southbound towards Devon and Cornwall.

A grubby unwashed Class 47 No.47086 'Colossus' passes 40 Steps on the 6th May 1978 hauling 'The Severn Valley Limited'. Complete with a large headboard in place the loco hauls a 1Z24 Bewdley - Kingswear charter using stock from the Severn Valley Railway.

BR Blue Class 47/0 No.47086 powers under Staplegrove Road from 40 Steps hauling the 1Z24 Bewdley - Kingswear charter 'The Severn Valley Limited' on the 6th May 1978. The photographer captured the unique vintage stock and the fetching rear coach board adding to the train decoration, a nice and rare touch.

British Railways Class 47 No.47545 passes 40 Steps, Taunton on the 6th May 1978 hauling a nine coach formation on a northbound passenger service. The Class 47 was delivered new as D1646 in December 1964. It remained in passenger service until 1988 when it gained special status as 97545 (and later 47972 being remained into Central Services Livery). It lasted in traffic until 1998 and was cut up in 2010 at CF Booths of Rotherham.

A British Rail Class 40 No.40118 makes a very rare appearance at 40 Steps, Taunton on the 6th of May 1978. The locomotive was hauling 'The Cathedrals Express' charter 1Z08 Cardiff Central - Cardiff Central. The tour operated one way through Taunton returning via Yeovil, Basingstoke, and Didcot.

A pair of British Rail Westerns No. D1013 'Western Ranger' and No. D1023 'Western Fusilier' pass Cogload Junction on the 26th February 1977 operating 1Z52 09:10 London Paddington - Plymouth via Swansea 'Western Tribute' charter . This charter was the final farewell to the Western Class locomotives.

BR Class 50 No. 50030 'Repulse' passes Cogload Junction on the 14th August 1976. The train is thought to be 1V34 07:45 Kensington Olympia - St Austell Motorail service, with the cars located at the rear of the train. Notable is the Mk1 Range Rover parked in the compound.

British Rail 'Western' No. D1005 'Western Venturer' storms out of Taunton on the 3rd August 1976 with a southbound passenger service. The locomotive was originally built on the 18th of June 1962 and later scrapped in June of 1977 less than a year after this image was taken.
