A Class 59/1 made a welcome return to Somerset and Devon on the 2nd February 2026. No. 59102 'Village of Chantry' operated light engine from Merehead Quarry early in the day to collect a rake of stored aggregate wagons from Exeter Riverside Yard. No. 59102 'Village of Chantry' is pictured climbing Whiteball Bank with 40 wagons in tow, measuring 1988 feet with a trailing load of 971 tonnes (empty). The loco was operating as 6C28 12:48 Exeter Riverside - Merehead.

On hire from GBRf to Colas Rail Freight, Class 59/0 No. 59003 'Yeoman Highlander' is pictured passing Cogload Junction in the early morning on the 20th May 2025. The loco was operating 6C40 23:26 (Mon) Westbury - Westbury via Exeter Riverside having carried out an overnight ballast drop in Somerset and Devon.

Recently repainted Freightliner Class 59/1 No. 59102 'Village of Chantry' passes Taunton Station for the final time on on the 28th March 2025. The loco was hauling the final 6C28 12:48 Exeter Riverside - Whatley Quarry empties brining to an end a flow which has operated for 28 years on an as required basis.

Aggregate Industries Class 59/0 No. 59001 'Yeoman Endeavour' heads out of Whiteball Tunnel into Somerset on the 21st March 2025. The loco was returning to Wiltshire with empties as 6C68 12:48 Exeter Riverside - Whatley Quarry.

With headlights ablaze, Aggregate Industries liveried Class 59/0 No. 59001 'Yeoman Endeavour' makes light work of it heavy load up Whiteball Bank on the 21st March 2025. The loco was captured at dawn operating 6C27 06:10 Westbury - Exeter Riverside. At this point in time the train had just five diagrams left before the flow ceased on Friday 28th.

Rounding the curve at Oath on the Somerset Levels, Freightliner Heidelberg liveried Class 59/1 No. 59101 'Village of Whatley' heads west with a lengthy rake of JHA Yeoman wagons for storage. The colourful loco was operating 7C73 11:20 Merehead Quarry - Exeter Riverside.

20th December 2024
On December 20th 2024, a rake of thirty Orenstein and Koppel built JHA hopper wagons, operated by Foster Yeoman, were moved from Merehead Quarry to Exeter Riverside Yard for storage. Class 59/1 No. 59101 'Village of Whatley' operated the move as 7C73 11:20 Merehead Quarry to Exeter Riverside, and was captured in heavy rain having just passed through Whiteball Tunnel into Devon. With the regular flow of aggregates to Exeter Riverside Yard exclusively conveyed in box wagons, the JHA wagon type is rarely seen this far west, with only a few previous visits on record.
