4th March 2026
A rare daylight appearance for a GWR two-car Class 165 'Turbo' occurred on the 4th March 2026. No. 165135 is pictured at Taunton, operating 2C71 10:00 Cardiff Central - Exeter St Davids stopping service, having taken over from an IET at Bristol. The unit later returned from Exeter, heading back to Bristol.

28th March 2025
A three-car GWR Class 165 passes through Platform3 at Taunton on Friday 28th March 2025. No.165103 was operating an empty stock transfer as 5Z78 10:30 St Philips Marsh - Exeter returning from maintenance in Bristol, later in the day a Class 158 from Exeter Depot returned to Bristol in the same fashion.

GWR Turbo 3-car set No.165103 heads north at Fordgate with early bird train service 2K10 06:37 Taunton to Severn Beach on Tuesday 25th July 2024. GWR Turbo units are now incredibly rare to be seen in the Taunton area, they work some early morning commuter services and late night stopping services but are rarely seen during the normal daytime passenger schedules.

GWR three-car Class 165 'Turbo' No.165108 is pictured at Taunton on the 20th February 2023. The unit had arrived empty stock into Platform 4 from Exeter in time to operate the 2K10 06:37 Taunton - Severn Beach stopping service. Early morning and late night are generally the only times that Turbo units can be seen at Taunton during the week.

Making a rare daylight appearance south of Taunton on the 24th January 2024. The three-car turbo No.165102 operated 2M16 10:52 Plymouth - Weston-super-Mare on three consecutive days.

A trio of former Thames Turbo units provided an interesting combination on Sunday 7th October. No.165129 No.165135 and No.166213 operated 2U12 09:38 Exeter St Davids - Cardiff Central. The Class 166 was removed at Bristol to form another passenger service. The GWR Turbos are pictured passing Cogload Junction in the morning sunlight.

GWR Class 165s began to make their appearance in the South West during W/C 2nd July. It's believed the first Class 165 (in passenger service) to visit Taunton was on Tuesday 3rd July. However this example was captured on Saturday 7th July 2018 having arrived with the 2C83 16:54 Bristol Temple Meads - Taunton service No.165119 is pictured at Taunton. The two-car variant of the Class 166 then worked the return 2U28 18:08 Taunton - Bristol Temple Meads stopping service.
