17th August 2025
A Sunday morning is one of the only times of the week when you are able to travel on classic 1990s Class 158 with GWR in daylight. The Class 158 is a rare passenger unit at Taunton these days, only operating late at night and on limited services on a Sunday. The first train north on a Sunday morning is formed of two GWR Class 158s and by the time this train reaches Bristol it will be full to the brim with passengers. On Sunday 17th August 2025 No.158745 and No.158767 arrive into Taunton operating 2U09 07:59 Exeter St Davids - Cardiff Central. After stopping at Taunton the four-car set then calls at all stations to Bristol Temple Meads. In the background Colas Rail Tamper DR75016 (Built in 2023 and delivered to Colas in June 2024) is pictured stabled between duties.

5th March 2025
The Taunton Station sidings to the rear of Platform 1 are often used to store railway tampers, engineering equipment and visiting charter locomotives, however on the 5th March 2025 it played host to a GWR two-car Class 158 No.158762. Unfortunately the unit was involved in a fatal collision with a motorbike at Victory Crossing while operating 2M73 21:08 Paignton - Bristol Temple Meads service. After the recovery operation had taken the place the unit was taken out of service to the nearest location (Taunton) where checks were carried out prior to be moved to Exeter TMD the next day for maintenance checks.

1st October 2024
Passengers services during the early morning period at Taunton were thrown into a period of disruption on the Tuesday 1st October 2024. Overnight engineering work just south of Bristol overran after a road rail maintenance vehicle had an oil leak rendering it unable to move, and dropping its oil on the track. No passenger services could operate between Taunton and Bristol until the Road Rail Vehicle was retrieved. Two-car Class 158 No.158762 is pictured in Platform 2 at Taunton, having been cancelled on its booked service to Bristol (normally departing Taunton at 05:10), the unit was re-diagrammed to operate 2C61 06:09 Taunton - Exeter St Davids (the diagram having been cancelled between Bristol and Taunton).
