29th June 2014
Steam power returned to Taunton on the 29th July 2014 hauling The Railway Touring Companies' 'The Royal Duchy' charter from Bristol Temple Meads to Par. After last minute changes were made to the schedule, LMS Black 5 No. 45407 'The Lancashire Fusilier' was permitted to travel through to Par and be turned on the St Blazey Turntable (which had been made serviceable after an agreement between DBS and West Coast Railways). The long term future of the St Blazey turntable is in major doubt but we hope for the sake of future steam hauled railtours in the South West, that the St Blazey turntable can be saved as a strategic location in Cornwall it's a vital piece of equipment to prevent locos having to turn in Plymouth and run tender first into Cornwall. No. 45407 'The Lancashire Fusilier' is seen taking Whiteball Bank with ease on route into Devon and Cornwall operating 1Z37 08:12 Bristol Temple Meads - Par.
