Passing through the dappled shade at Whiteball, LNER A4 Pacific No. 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' leads 1Z07 06:35 Poole to Kingswear charter ‘The English Riviera Express’ on Saturday 5th September 2026. The initial leg of the tour was worked in 'top & tail' configuration by LSL locomotives No.57302 and No. 50050 'Fearless' from Poole. The train reversed direction at Westbury, putting the Class 50 in charge across the Somerset Levels as far as Taunton, where Sir Nigel Gresley replaced Fearless for the final run down into South Devon.

The twin Maybach engines from the two double-headed Hymeks could be heard for several miles ahead of their arrival into Crowcombe on Saturday 29th August 2026. No.D7017 and No.D7018 arrived into Crowcombe with the late-running 14:30 Minehead - Bishops Lydeard service (running in the slot of the 16:30 from Minehead); an earlier coaching stock fault on the outward journey had forced the train to return to Bishops Lydeard, and the pair eventually took an alternative coaching stock rake through to Minehead and back.

Still diesel traction throughout for the ‘English Riviera Express’ on Saturday 15th August 2026. Railfreight Distribution-liveried Class 57 No. 57003 'Inter City Railway Society 50th Anniversary 1973 - 2023' heads west with the 1Z07 05:45 Three Bridges to Kingswear via Taunton, captured descending the grade from Whiteball Summit. The initial leg of the charter was led by No. 47810 'Crewe Diesel Depot' (D1924) as far as Westbury, where, upon arrival, the driver changed ends, the subsequent change of direction putting 57003 'Inter City Railway Society 50th Anniversary 1973 - 2023' in charge of the tour for the remainder of the run down to the English Riviera.

The GBRf-operated Cornish China Clay contract received a splash of colour on Friday 14th August 2026. London Transport Museum-liveried Class 66/7 No. 66718 'Peter, Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill, of Imber in the County of Wiltshire' was allocated to haul 6V72 13:17 Cliffe Vale - Goonbarrow china clay empties. The colourful celebrity-liveried Class 66 is pictured passing Banklands with 14 JIA wagons in tow.

Locomotive Services Group No. 57003 'Inter City Railway Society 50th Anniversary 1973 - 2023' and No. 47810 'Crewe Diesel Depot' (D1924) pass through Creech St Michael with the returning 'English Riviera Express' on Saturday 8th August 2026. Following problems with No.47805 earlier in the day at Westbury, No. 57003 'Inter City Railway Society 50th Anniversary 1973 - 2023' was dispatched from Southall to assist the 1Z08 16:35 Kingswear back to Ely from Taunton.

Making its first visit to the South West the 125 Group operated 'The Summer Riviera' charter on Saturday 8th August 2026. No.43025 'Exeter' and No.43089 are pictured passing Cogload Junction, operating 1Z51 07:35 Manchester Victoria - Paignton. The charter was operating 23 minutes late due to a fatality near Weston Milton, which caused a delay to passing services. The set was formed of Mk3 coaches 41067 41057 40730 42119 42120 42111, and 44000, creating a once-common sight at Cogload Junction.

Saphos Trains 'English Riviera Express' charter passed through the Taunton area on Saturday 1st August 2026. With a steam ban still in place, the charter was hauled throughout, but diesel traction No. 47805 'Roger Hosking MA 1925-2013 ' and No.57302 operated 1Z07 06:17 Shrewsbury - Kingswear in a top-and-tail formation. The Midland Pullman HST headed to the Devon Riviera on the 29th July 2026. The Torbay Riviera Pullman passed through Taunton in glorious sunshine with No. 43050 'Loch Morar' leading No.43055 operating 1Z44 05:24 Hull - Paington. The Pullman HST is pictured passing through Platform 3 on the approach to 40 Steps.

The Britannic Explorer was back on another three-day trip to the Southwest on Friday 24th July 2026. Dedicated GBRf Class 66 No. 66748 'St Michaels Mount' led the luxury train from London Victoria in top and tail formation with No. 66744 'Heart of Wales' as 1V01 15:48 London Victoria - Bishops Lydeard. Having arrived onto the West Somerset Railway, the pair continued through to Minehead for an evening dinner at Kerr Moor. The Network Rail New Measurement Train passes Cogload Junction on Friday 24th July 2026. No. 43013 'Mark Carne CBE' is pictured leading No. 43062 'John Armitt' operating the late-running 1Q18 15:39 Paington - Taunton track testing run. This service had terminated short at Bristol Temple Meads and arrived into Taunton in time to make a right-time departure back to London Paddington.

Operating in the 32-degree heatwave on Friday, 10th July 2026, GBRf Class 66/7 No. 66759 'Chippy ' is pictured passing Banklands. The locomotive was operating 6V72 13:17 Cliffe Vale - Goonbarrow, formed of a healthy rake of 16 JIA empty China Clay wagons. No. 66759 'Chippy ' received this name on September 19, 2015, in remembrance of Clive Chippington, a highly respected Assistant Train Manager with GB Railfreight who unexpectedly passed away that year.
