1st July 57603 worked the up Penzance - Paddington 'Sleeper' up through to Taunton at 02:00. 66563 was out working for Freightliner overnight, passing Taunton at 01:00 with the loaded 6V20 Ealres Sidings - Moorswater cement. On the return working in the evening 6M37 departed Taunton at 20:27.   2nd July 66049 worked South at 05:10 with the 6V41 Irvine - Burngullow 'Silver Bullets' 66121 worked the 6V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel, down through Taunton at approx 18:00. 3rd July 'The Virgin Trains Farce' The 3rd of July was the day that many people had been waiting for, it would once again provide enthusiasts the chance to see loco hauled trains to the seaside again with the commencement of the holiday specials from Virgin Trains. In previous years this has not been a problem with the trusty Class 47's which would just simply haul extra rakes of coaches from further north to the sea side. However Virgin only now has a fleet of Voyagers which sadly are wholly inadequate for the job of moving large amounts of people and luggage to the sea side, especially NEWQUAY where surfboards are the norm! As a result Virgin now hire in a GNER HST which runs empty from Leeds - Plymouth overnight, depriving those in the north of a reasonable arrival time at their holiday destinations! 43110+43008 worked the 5V65 through Taunton at 04:44. This years Summer loco hauled trains were contracted out by Virgin for other operators to come up with locos and stock for Virgin to use. They opted for Class 67's on 4 services with 11 coaches each. However due to the Class 67's appalling fuel range capabilities and the fact that if they are filled more than 3/4 full with fuel they become out of gauge, some services were run with T&T loco's in order to conserve their go go juice. The first day of operation started with the biggest farce of all. A late running Virgin train, which seemed to have been caused because of stock confusion on the part of EWS at OOC. Virgin had opted not to run any overnight services from the North this year, thus the first two trains of the day would run from Old Oak Common (London) to Paignton as an empty coaching stock service. The first train is booked off OOC at 02:15 however confusion over stock and loco movements meant the train ended up running 144 minutes late when passing Taunton at 07:44 (It should have passed at 05:16) This was hauled by 67014 leading and 67016 dead on the back of a complete Intercity liveried rake of Mk2's. The next down service was equally as farcical, with Royal Loco 67005 hauling 67029 south at 08:43 with the 5C89. (This should have passed at 06:03) It was as a result of this exceptionally late running service that the train only actually made it to Exeter before it was ordered to start it's booked diagram from there. 67005 was taken off the Southern end of the train and sent on light engine to Paignton. While 67029 was started up and then worked the 1E99 to Newcastle back north through Taunton at 10:33. The train actually contained very few people having of course missed out it's booked stops from Paignton - Exeter. At 10:51(running approx 30 late)  67016 returned north with it's 11 coaches having left 67014 at Paignton. 016 stormed through the centre road with the 1M89 Preston - Paignton. This was slightly better loaded but by no means justified 11 coaches! Virgin also has two other HST services to supplement it's Virgin Voyagers, however the booked HST which was to work the 1V21 06:35 Manchester - Newquay had already failed, so sadly a Voyager (221123) had to be deployed on this service. However the 1Z34 06:59 Leeds - Paignton was formed of 43153+43098, this worked South through Taunton at 11:48. Thye later returned working the 1M78 Paignton - Manchester Virgins GNER HST worked back north at 12:58 (15 late) with the 1E34 09:25 Newquay - Newcastle. Two afternoon down loco hauled trains are booked on a Summer Saturday this first to appear is the 1V15 07:08 York - Paignton. This train used 67027 and worked South at 13:32 on time. Once at Paignton one of the two spare 67's will attach and tow the train empty back to Old Oak Common. The second down service train was hauled by 67002, working the 1V19 09:51 Preston - Paignton with delays caused further to the north the train was running approx 30 late on passing Taunton. At 11:00 it departed the yard and passed Taunton at 11:44 heading back to Westbury. Past Time Railtours ran their 'Edenex' today with 67019 working the 1Z67 Chester - Par train, mainly formed of Maroon and BR Blue stock, this passed Taunton at 10:34 with it's 13 coaches in tow. It worked back North at 19:00 to Chester. The 1V77 09:26 Manchester - Penzance operated by Arriva was formed of 158827 (Ginsters Pasty Livery) and 158845 (Central Trains Green)   5th July 66249 worked this mornings 6O92 Exeter Riverside - Dollands Moor service, passing Taunton at 10:40. 66161 worked the 6C62 Westbury Yard - Tavistock Jn fuel with two loaded TTA's this evening, passing Taunton at 17:55. 66215 worked the Tavistock Jn - Liverpool ADJ loaded scrap with 14 wagons up at 22:00.   6th July 47811 worked the up Penzance - Paddington sleeper up at 02:00. 66154 worked the down overnight 6V41 Irvine - Burngullow 'Silver Bullets' passing Taunton at 07:10 this morning. It's thought 60034 made a fleeting visit this morning at 08:30 working a 0F34 light engine move from Westbury - Exeter Riverside, where it collected some wagons and returned with the 6F36 12:27 Exeter Riverside - Westbury. It was booked past Taunton at 12:30. 66139 ambled down through Taunton at 17:43 this evening with the 6V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel. 66218 worked the late running 6V70 Cliffe Vale - St Blazey 'China Clay Empties' down through Taunton at 18:45 with a long load for Cornwall.   7th July 66086 passed Taunton at 05:55 with the 6F96 Cardiff Tidal - Tavistock Jn scrap empties. 43163+43025 passed Taunton 10:05 this morning working the 0Z74 Laira - St Phillips Marsh, back to back HST stock move. 66012 was out working the 6S55 Burngullow - Irvine 'Silver Bullets' up at 13:05.   8th July 57604+57603 worked the down 1C99 Paddington - Penzance 'Sleeper' through Taunton at 03:30! 66230 returned north with the 6W61 to Westbury during the early morning at 08:30. 66196 worked the 6W65 15:08 Westbury - Truro down through Taunton at 16:10. Freightliners 6M37 Moorswater - Earles cement empties was severely delayed this evening, after being sent to Par in order to run around their train instead of Lostwithiel. The earlier failure of 66048 at Hemerdon on 6M72 also contributed to delays. 66608 (on it's first time to the South West) finally worked north at 21:56. 66048 worked the 6M72 St Blazey - Cliffe Vale tonight, however it slipped to a stand the the incline to Hemerdon just outside Plymouth. This was due to wet and greasy rails and an increased load from EWS of 1092 Tonnes. EWS are currently trailing longer and heavier trains in the South West to help reduce costs amongst other things. The tractive effort of a Class 66 is quite frankly rubbish, and the only was EWS will manage to get trains over the banks with heavier loads will be with the British Beasts. The Class 60!   9th July 66140 worked the 6V41 Irvine - Burngullow 'Silver Bullets' down through Taunton at 04:09 with 22 wagons in tow. 66247 working the 6F96 Cardiff Tidal - Tavistock Jn scrap empties worked down through Taunton at approx 07:00 this morning. 66052 worked South through Taunton at 17:40 with the 6V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel, this was followed by 66200 at 21:00 working the late running 6V70 Cliffe Vale - St Blazey 'China Clay empties' Central Trains liveried 158782 working a stopping service to Taunton was failed upon arrival at the station. The 20:24 return service was therefore cancelled with the unit working off empty stock. 10th July   During the early hours of the morning, the usual Saturday procession of empty trains with no passengers on board passed Taunton. 43111+43006 from GNER worked South at 04:30 with the Leeds - Plymouth empty stock. 67013+67011 were next with the 5C99 Old Oak Common - Goodrington at 05:20. While 67014+67002 followed at 05:48 with the 5C89 Old Oak Common - Goodrington.   Taunton saw two engineers trains head South for weekend engineering work this morning. The first was 66052 which worked south at 09:04 with the 6W01 08:12 Westbury - Truro, the train conveying loaded rail bound for Cornwall. Later in the morning 66127 followed down with the 6W12 Westbury - Truro with a rake of autoballasters at 10:55.   67002 passed Taunton at 10:17 with the 1M89 08:43 Paignton - Preston, 67013 then followed shortly after with the 1E99 1E99 Paignton - Newcastle service.   The 1V21 06:35 Manchester - Newquay was worked by an unbranded Virgin Trains HST (43153+43098)   67013 worked back north through Taunton on time at 10:25 this morning with the 1E99 09:05 Paignton - Newcastle.   Virgins other RED HST was out working the 1Z31 Leeds - Paignton service. 43092+43094 passed Taunton at 11:50 heading South.   There was also the addition of a railtour for Tautonians to enjoy, 47355 and 47703 from Fragonset top and tailed a railtour from Norwich and heading for an afternoon at Okehampton. The pair in T&T formation passed Taunton on time at 12:49.   67019 was working the 1V15 07:08 York - Paignton service and passed Taunton at 13:28 heading for the sea side. 67015 later followed with the 1V19 09:51 Preston - Paignton at 14:57.   The evening yielded the return empty stock workings.   67014 was first with 67019 dead on the rear running early at 17:35 with the 5A15 Goodrington - Old Oak Common.   Next was 43098+43153 passing with the 1M25 return Newquay - Manchester service, then followed 47355+47703 on the  Nenta Railtour returning to Norwich from their day out at Dartmoor at 18:20, and then 67011 followed up with 67015 on the rear of it's train on the 5A19 Goodrington - Old Oak common at 18:49 also running 40 early!     11th July   66127 returned to Westbury this afternoon from Cornwall with the 6W12 around 13:40.       12th July   66139 was out working the 6O92 Exeter Riverside - Dollands Moor 'China Clay' for export this morning.   66066 worked the 6W11 St Blazey - Westbury engineers up through Taunton to Westbury at around 12:15 today.   Tonight's Portsmouth Harbour - Penzance service was worked by Regional Railways liveried 158747 complete with snow plough moulds! Originally a Scottish Unit, it's now operated by Wessex Trains.   66216 worked the 6C62 Westbury Yard - Exeter Riverside down through Taunton at 18:05 with just one fuel tank in tow. It later returned north through Taunton at 22:25 with 5 empty fuel tanks heading back to Eastleigh.   57604 was sent out on a mercy mission for First Great Western today 'linking' Laira with St Phillips Marsh once more, with a slight twist in the tale 57604 was actually towed from Laira - St Phillips Marsh by 43019 with the 57 marshalled between that and barrier car 6348. The 5Z74 15:48 Laira - SPM passed Taunton at 17:22 heading northbound! The combination was run this way round as it's easier for staff at SPM to then couple the return powercar to the other end of the train to allow the 57 to leave quickly back to Laira. Once shunting had been completed 57604 then worked back South through to Taunton at 20:05 with barrier 6348 and a nice back oiled 43135 in tow. It was held in the station for a short while before being allowed to continue south to  Plymouth 43135 is due to have a power unit change at Laira over the next couple of days due to having dropped a couple of con rods in it's existing engine!   66140 was used on the 6M72 St Blazey - Cliffe Vale. 66218 was also seen out working on a rake of Autoballasters possibly passing Taunton at around 22:00 although it's not confirmed.     13th July   Freightliner completed the set of 'New' loco's with 66617 working the 6V20 overnight Earles - Moorswater cement, passing Taunton 00:12. It was then routed via the down relief in order to allow the last First Great Western service to pass before departing the bottom end of fairwater yard at 00:27.   The other overnight train was of course the 6V41 long distance Irvine (Scotland) - Burngullow (Cornwall) 'Silver Bullet's which utilised 66192 for the long haul to the South West.   The real-time morning that most normal people know didn't kick off that well at all. Whilst working the 07:10 Exeter - Cardiff Central the train duly failed at Wellington blocking the up mainline. The caused further delays to First Great Westerns 'flagship' service 'The Golden Hind'. The delay caused were around 1hour 40 minutes for each train sat in the queue behind the failed unit.   66013 worked the 6V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel down through Taunton at 17:41 with 19 TTA fuel tanks in tow.   66061 was working the 6V70 Cliffe Vale - St Blazey 'China Clay Empties' passing Taunton at 19:27 heading for Cornwall.   66617 returned from Cornwall with it's lighter mixed load working up at 20:29 through the station.     14th July   66033 was entrusted to the Down scrap empties working this morning passing Taunton at 06:45 with the 6F96 03:10 Cardiff Tidal - Tavistock Jn.   66201 worked a Westbury - Truro loaded spoil/engineers train down through Taunton at 17:45. 15th July   57604 worked the up 1A99 Penzance - Paddington 'Sleeper' service departing Taunton at 02:00! Also during the early hours of the morning, 66201 worked back through Taunton heading to Westbury.     66614 worked the overnight 6V20 Earles Sidings - Moorswater loaded cement, after having a shortened load a quick  unloading time at Moorswater was achieved with the cancellation of the second portion from Hackney - Moorswater. 66614 was able to return north through Taunton at 16:15!   66200 had charge of the 6M72 to Cliffe Vale from Cornwall, passing Taunton at 20:18.     16th July   66059 worked the overnight 6V41 Irvine - Burngullow 'Silver Bullets' passing Taunton during the usual early hours   66061 worked up through Taunton at approx 11:10 with an engineers train heading from St Blazey to Newport.   47811 made a rare outing today with a stock move between St Phillips Marsh and Laira, it worked South at 11:21 with a barrier car, a Mk3 HST Coach and an HST Powercar as the 5Z77. It had earlier worked light engine up from Laira in order to collect the stock.   66195 worked the 6V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel this evening.   66200 worked South through Taunton at 19:10 with 20 wagons in tow, working the 6V60 Cliffe Vale - St Blazey, while 66033 had charge of the Tavistock Jn - Cardiff Tidal scrap.       17th July   During the early hours 66119 worked back northbound on the 6V41 Burngullow - Irvine 'Silver Bullets'   With another Summer Saturday upon us the usual parade of trains worked down overnight with no passengers on board.   First to appear was 43115+43118 with the 5V65 Neville Hill - Plymouth, passing Taunton at 05:15. (GNER Coaching stock: 42060, 42059, 42058, 42057, 42323, 42189, 40735, 41041, 41040, 41034)   67011+67012 worked the 5C89 Old Oak Common - Paignton, passing Taunton at 05:50 in the morning. 67025+67029 in their T&T formation worked their ECS down at 06:10.   The 1V15 09:51 Preston - Paignton was in the hands of 67028, while the 1V19 07:08 York - Paignton was worked by 67010.   Virgin Trains also had their compliment of HST's out working, 43092+43094  worked the 1V31 07:25 York - Paignton, while 43098+43153 worked the 1V21 to Newquay once more.   67012 having worked down on the rear of the 5C89 to Paignton overnight, then worked the 1M89 Paignton - Preston, passing Taunton at 10:15, 67029 formed the 1E99 from Paignton following.   GNER HST formed of 43115+43118 returned north at 12:45 with the Newquay - Newcastle service   67025 worked the 5A15 Paignton - OOC with 67010 dead on the rear, working north at 17:33, 67011 then followed with 67028 on the rear with the 5A19 Paignton - OOC at 19:30   The 6W20 19:07 Westbury - Lostwithiel was worked by T&T Class 66's. 66201+66230, passing Taunton 19:18. However the train only had it as far as Hackney Yard at Newton Abbot due to technical problems on one of the wagons.       18th July   66201+66230 returned north through Taunton at 10:30 to Westbury having not been to Lostwithiel.   47811 made an unexpected outing on Sunday afternoon, it appeared by dragging the 5Z74 with 43135, barriers 6348 and 6336 and powercar 43186. It worked north through Taunton at around 18:00 heading to St Phillips Marsh. The loco later returned with the 5Z77 20:00 St Phillips Marsh - Laira stock move. It passed Taunton at 20:45 on the down return working to Laira.       19th July   66189 was up early working the 6F56 Tavi scrap empties, working South at 06:45 with 19 wagons in tow.   66183 was working the 6O92 Exeter Riverside - Dollands Moor service, passing Taunton at 10:19.   66045 was used on the 6C62 Westbury Yard - Tavistock Jn fuel, working South at ?   66059 worked the up 6M72 to Cliffe Vale.       20th July   66617 worked the overnight 6V20 Earles Sidings - Moorswater 'Bulkliner' down through Taunton for Freightliner Heavy Haul.   66186 was out working the 6V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel, while 66059 worked the 6V70 Cliffe Vale - St Blazey.   47811 made yet another outing for First Group today, working the 5Z74 16:00 Laria - St Phillips Marsh stock move. It passed Taunton at 18:15 towing 6336 and 6722, it later returned with the 5Z77 St Phillips Marsh - Laira, this time towing 43025 and a barrier van.   Freightliner 66617 returned north running late with the 6M37 Moorswater - Earles cement empties, passing Taunton at 21:05.   EWS's 6M72 St Blazey - Cliffe Vale was worked by 66061, while later in the night 66119 worked South with the 6V41 Irvine- Burngullow 'Bullets'       21st July   66119 worked the 6S55 Burngullow - Irvine 'Silver Bullet's, 66061 appeared on thee 6V70 Cliffe Vale - St Blazey, with just 3 wagons in tow at 18:19.   Today's scrap was handled by 66250 still in a relatively clean red after it's spruce up for the York Railfest.       22nd July   66617 was again out working the 6V20 Earles Siding's - Moorswater 'Cement' overnight into Cornwall, having spent the day in Cornwall it then returned north at 20:45.   66061 was working 6M72 St Blazey - Cliffe Vale, and worked up through Taunton at 19:58       23rd July   66007 worked the overnight 6V41 Irvine - Burngullow 'Bullets' passing Taunton during the early hours.   Around mid afternoon 66165 was used to work the 6F39 Westbury - St Blazey passing Taunton around 13:00. It took a break at Exeter Riverside yard before heading on down into Cornwall.   66200 also appeared later in the day with an Exeter Riverside - Westbury engineers working.   66061 worked the 6V70 Cliffe Vale - St Blazey down through Taunton this evening, 66030 was out working the 6V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel.       24th July   66059 worked north during the early hours with the 6M68 Burngullow - Irvine 'Bullets'.   43105 and 43120 were today's visitors from GNER working the overnight empty 5V65 Leeds - Plymouth stock move. It later returned north at 13:40 running nearly an hour late.   67010+67002 worked the 5C89 Old Oak Common - Paington ECS stock move for Virgin Trains, 67006+67005 worked the 5C99 also from Old Oak to Paington, both in T&T formation.   Double Headed Class 50's returned to wake up sleepy Taunton today, in resplendent BR Large Logo, 50049+50031 passed through just before 10:00 this morning heading from Guildford - Par.     50031 'Hood' and 50049 'Defiance' make a fine sight passing Allerford on route to Par from Guildford. Nice to see a pair of Large Logo Class 50's back on the mainline again! Nice use of 11 coaches there then Virgin!     The Yellow HST for Network Rail visited Taunton today with their NEW powercar attached, 43014 and 43154 arrived at 14:09 with the 1C00 12:30 Swindon - Taunton before departing with the 1B01 14:40 Taunton - Swindon, departing at 14:34.       26th July     66138 was out working the 6O92 Exeter Riverside - Dollands Moor today   66241 worked the 6C62 Westbury Yard - Tavistock Jn fuel, it later returned at 22:50 with 8 empties for Fawley.   66165 worked the 6M72 St Blazey - Cliffe Vale, passing Taunton at 21:18   66182 worked the Tavistock Jn - Liverpool ADJ up through Taunton at 22:01     27th July   66246 worked the 6V41 Irvine - Burngullow 'Silver Bullets' down through Taunton at   66244 worked the 6V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel down through Taunton at 17:50, followed by 66165 on 6V70 at 18:02   A Class 60 made it to/ through Taunton this evening, after working the 0F76 22:30 Westbury - Exeter Riverside, this arrived at  Taunton at 22:38 stopping until 22:46, then heading South. They later returned running early at 19:10 with the empties heading back to the Hope Valley.   57604 was out working under the cover of darkness on the Penzance - Paddington 'Sleeper' for First Great Western.   66007 passed Northbound at 20:17 with the 6M72 St Blazey - Cliffe Vale 'China Clay'   Late Thursday night saw yet another Class 60 head through Taunton, 60024  working the 6F36 22:45 Westbury - Exeter Riverside ballast/ engineering train. It later worked back north to Westbury running 179 early at 23:30 with another loaded train.     30th July   66200 worked the 6V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel down through Taunton at 17:40 this evening, still looking very clean after it's spruce up for the York 'Railfest' a couple of months ago.   Yet another Class 60 made the trip from Westbury - Exeter, passing Taunton at 21:50 working the 6F36 22:00 Westbury - Exeter Riverside with 10 loaded JNA wagons, arriving at Exeter 23:27. It then returned light engine to Westbury as the 0F36 00:05 Exeter Riverside - Westbury.     31st July   Another 'Summer Saturday' arrived as did the glorious weather, although starting a little manky the sun soon got rid of any residual dullness.   The usual appalling empty trains ran overnight with no people on them again, The GNER liveried HST passed Taunton at 04:30 this week 43111+43116 were working the Leeds - Plymouth empty turn.   The 5C89 Old Oak Common - Paignton empty stock passed Taunton at 05:13 with 67025 leading and 67027 on the rear, while 67006+67001 followed down at 05:55 with their empty train.   47811 made a rare Saturday appearance working the 5Z74 Laira - St Phillips Marsh stock move, passing Taunton at 09:40 heading to Bristol with two barrier cars and a Mk3 HST Buffet coach in tow! It later returned at 11:50 heading South back to Plymouth with just one barrier car.   67026 worked the 1Z52 Nottingham - Par 'Eden Ex' passing Taunton at 09:50 heading for Cornwall.   Once at Paignton 67027 formed the 1M89 08:23 Paignton - Preston service for Virgin, with  67001 then running the 1E99 Paignton - Newcastle service.   Virgin's only two HST sets were in action again today, with 43153+43098 on the 1V21 06:35 Manchester - Newquay, and 1M25 Newquay - Manchester return along with 43094+43092 working the 1V31 York - Paignton, and the 1M87 Paignton - York return.   43111+43116 returned north at around 12:50 running approx 15 minutes late heading back to Scotland from Newquay.   The afternoon trains made good time, with 67021 working the 1V15 York - Paignton service for Virgin and 67014 working  the 1V19 from Preston. Once at Goodrington sidings 67025 then towed 67014 back to London, and 67006 towed 67021 back.   66054+66107 worked the 6W23 17:35 Westbury - Burngullow passing Taunton at 18:30 with their engineers train.   66180 arrived at Taunton 22:12 with 6 Autoballasters in tow, working down into Fairwater Yard. Part of the down relief line was replaced over night meaning that on Sunday morning only Platform 3 was to be used. 1st August   66180 was in the station area dropping ballast at 08:50 this morning on the down relief.   The sight and sounds of steam returned to the South West today with the arrival of the 'Torbay Express' season. Steam trains will run most Sundays through Taunton with either 5051 'Earl Bathurst' or 7821 'Bradley Manor' hauling these services.   5051 Earl Bathurst hauled the first service of the season today, arriving at Taunton on time, and using Platform 3 because of the above mentioned engineering works.   Earl Bathurst stopped at Taunton for water on the return from Kingswear - Bristol. After which it pushed northwards at 20:20.     2nd August   66004 passed Taunton at 06:15 this morning with the Liverpool ADJ - Tavistock Jn with 20 SSA scrap empties   66138 worked north around 09:45 this morning returning to Westbury from Cornwall.   As detailed at the top of the page, today saw the first running of First Great Western Link's Adalante units from London Paddington - Plymouth and return. FGW sent down a 10 car set formed of 180104+180110 which worked the 1C89 14:35 Paddington - Plymouth service, stopping at Taunton at 16:52 running 15 minutes late. The pair later returned working the 1A89 18:40 Plymouth - Paddington at 20:11.   66244 worked tonight's Fawley Tanks, expect there were none to haul so it worked light engine from Westbury - Exeter in order to pick up some empty wagons to take back. 66244 headed South at 17:45, and later returned at 20:44 heading back to Eastleigh.   66012 worked the 6M72 St Blazey - Cliffe Vale 'China Clay' up at 20:20     3rd August   47815 in it's 'retro' Two Tone Green livery worked the 1A99 Penzance - Paddington 'Sleeper' overnight, departing Taunton at 02:00.   66612 worked the overnight 6V20 Moorswater - Earles cement passing Taunton during the early hours. The loco was especially notable as it was actually in 'unbranded' Freightliner livery, and named 'The Forth Raider'   The 6V41 Irvine - Burngullow 'Silver Bullet's also worked down overnight with the empties heading back to Cornwall 66074 was in charge of the 13 bullets.   66018 worked the 6V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel down tonight, at 17:45, with 66012 then following at 18:25 with the 6V70 Cliffe Vale - St Blazey clay empties.   Today saw the second running of the Class 180 Adalante Units working the 1C89 14:35 Paddington - Plymouth, and the 1A89 18:40 Plymouth - Paddington return, today's units were 180114+180104   66612 returned north running early at 19:15 with the empties from Moorswater, heading back to Earles sidings.     4th August   Overnight sleeper action with Great Western saw both 47811 and 47815 back on the beds! With 811 heading from  Kernow back to the Capital, and 815 heading for the Summer Holiday hotspot!   At a slightly more civilized hour, but none the less early. 66004 passed through at 06:20 with the Cardiff Tidal - Tavistock Jn scrap empties for loading.   66007 was in charge of the long distance flow to Irvine in Scotland, hauling the bullets northwards at 13:25.   180108+180103 were today's Adalante pairing heading to Plymouth from London on the 1C89 & 1A89 turns.     5th August   The overnight 6V20 Earles Sidings - Moorswater cement hauled by Freightliner Heavy Haul was worked by 66563 overnight, passing Taunton during the early hours. 66563 making it's 8th appearance on the train! (Sad but true!)   180101+180107 appeared on today's Paddington - Plymouth - Paddington service.   Freightliner made good time in Cornwall, and worked the 6M37 Moorswater - Earles north at 19:00     6th August   66069 worked the 7F34 Westbury - Fairwater Yard this morning, with a rake of loaded Seacow Ballast wagons, it arrived at 11:23 and worked down into Fairwater Yard. The loco then detached from it's train and worked down to Exeter light engine, where it picked up some more wagons and took them back to Westbury passing Taunton 14:35. The wagons  in Fairwater Yard were ready in place for weekend engineering work on the down relief line.   The Network Rail 'NMT' Yellow HST passed Taunton today on it's two weekly diagram to Plymouth and back, working it's usual 1C00 Paddington - Plymouth and 1A00 Plymouth - Paddington. The HST raced north at 19:10 heading back to the captial.   66020 made it's first ever appearance on the 6V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel, passing Taunton at 18:05 with 5 bitumen and 5 fuel tanks in tow. The load was then split at Exeter with the 5 bitumen tanks working South to Tavistock Jn and the 5 fuel being taken by 66052 to St Blazey.   66246 was delayed on the 6V70 Cliffe Vale - St Blazey this evening, having been diverted via Droitwich Spa due to another freight train having problems in front of it. 66246 passed Taunton at 19:53.   66181 had charge of the Tavistock Jn - Cardiff Tidal scrap, passing Taunton at around 22:00.     7th August   Another Summer Saturday saw more chances to get out and see some real loco hauled trains. Even if they have got a Class 67 on the front!   The usual round of overnight empty trains rattled through Taunton with no passengers on board: GNER HST: 43006+43105 5V65 Neville Hill - Plymouth Virgin: 67003+67014 5C89 Old Oak Common - Goodrington Sidings Virgin: 67026+67010 5C99 Old Oak Common - Goodrington Sidings.   Mid morning then brings the first service trains of the day, 67014 worked the 1M89 Paignton - Preston service passing Taunton at 10:10, with 67010 forming the 1M99 Paignton - Newcastle passing at 10:20.   Virgins two HST sets were working their booked diagrams. 43153+43098 worked the 1V21 06:35 Manchester - Newquay passing Taunton at 10:36, and 43094+43092 worked the 1V31 07:25 York - Paignton passing Taunton at 12:00.   The 09:15 Cardiff - Paignton service was formed of 3X150's from Wessex Trains, making at 6 car set. 150236+150254 +150251   The Virgin operated GNER HST passed Taunton at 12:55 running late with the 1E34 Newquay - Edinburgh service.   After a slight lull the afternoon trains then appear, 67006 ambled down with the 1V15 York - Paignton service at 13:35.   Network Rail's Yellow HST also visited Taunton today on it's Saturday turn, working the 1C00 Swindon Yard - Taunton, and the 1B01 Taunton - Swindon return. It arrived at 14:07 and departed at 14:22.   67002 worked south at 15:05 with the 1V19 Preston - Paignton service train, while 43094+43092 returned with the 1M78 Paignton - York at 15:30.   The up empty ECS trains worked as: 67026+67006 5A15 Goodrington Sidings - Old Oak Common 67003+67002 5A19 Goodrington Sidings - Old Oak Common (Taunton 19:14)   66012 was sent light engine from St Blazey - Taunton during the evening, in order to attach to the rake of seacows in Fairwater Yard and help out with engineering work overnight on the down relief at Taunton. It arrived at 22:30 into the bottom end of the yard.     8th August   66107 also joined the fun overnight from Westbury and at 08:25 both were in the station area. By 09:00 66107 was awaiting a path from Fairwater Yard in order to head to Exeter with it's train.   As mentioned 'The Torbay Express' being run by Pass Time Railtours did have a change of traction, and as you may have seen from the photo on the front page, 60009 'Union of South Africa' made the rare trip to Paignton! The sight of an ex LNER loco on Great Western Metals was strange enough, but hauling 'The Torbay Express' was even stranger! The loco made an effortless departure with it's 9 coaches at 10:15 this morning.   66012 departed Taunton at 11:50 with the 6W22 Taunton - Westbury engineers.     9th August   66089 worked the Liverpool ADJ  6F96 Cardiff Tidal - Tavistock Jn scrap empties down through Taunton at approx 06:15.   The Merehead - Exeter Riverside stone contract appears to have started up again, with 59103 being utilised for today's 7C27 from Merehead.   It's thought 66215 worked the 6C62 Westbury Yard - Tavistock Jn this evening passing Taunton at 18:30 with just two TTA fuel tanks in tow.   180101 and 180108 passed Taunton this evening with the 1A89 heading back to London from Plymouth. They departed Taunton at 20:30 running around 30 minutes late.     10th August   57604 worked the Penzance - Paddington 'Sleepers' up through Taunton during the early hours (Thanks to Tom Irvin) . The first loco fleet is not looking to good at the moment, 47815 is out of traffic at Laira, 57602's engine likes to switch itself off, 57603 has a slight fly infestation in one cab. So 57604 is the only operational 57 they have!   Little did we know it but Taunton was in for a bit of a GM 'renaissance fest' with two of the original type GM Locomotives passing through the town in one day!   First to appear through the fog was 59002 in full 'Mendip Rail' colours, it worked the 7C27 Merehead - Exeter Riverside stone which seems to have started up again. It was in Tiverton Loop at 07:00 so must have passed Taunton around 06:30.   Not only was that rare enough but word was received that Ex National Power 59206 had sprung from nowhere, and was worked the 0F34 07:55 Westbury - Exeter Riverside slight engine move, then returning with the 6F34 11:00 Exeter Riverside - Westbury engineers train. It returned North at 11:38.   66015 also worked the 6Z92 07:13 Newport - St Blazey engineers with 4 YWA wagons and 2 YSA's in tow, this passed Taunton at 09:45 this morning, recessing in Fairwater Yard for a short while.   66246 also worked north through Taunton at 11:27 light engine and took the Bristol mainline at Cogload Jn.   At 12:30 it was time for 59002 to appear in daylight, and it's thanks to Mike the Bat once again for getting out for the shot wile others of us were working hard. The 59 was held at Taunton for a short while for a HST to pass before continuing to Westbury.   66066 ran late again with the 6V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel, working South at 18:30 again.   66244 worked the 6V70 Cliffe Vale - St Blazey down through Taunton at 18:43, with just 4 wagons in tow.   Freightliner are only running Tuesday this week, and their shortened 6M37 passed Taunton at 19:05 heading back to Earles Sidings from Cornwall with 66608 at the head of the train.   180107+180102 departed north with the 1A89 Plymouth - Paddington service at 20:11 this evening, more or less on time.     11th August   66227 worked the 6F96 scrap empties down through Taunton at 06:15 this morning.   Mendip Rail Class  59004 made the trip to Exeter today with the 7C27 Merehead - Exeter Riverside stone, it later returned at 12:00 pausing at Taunton for a short while with the 7C28 Exeter Riverside - Merehead empties. It departed at 12:16.   66244 had charge of the 6S55 Burngullow - Irvine 'Silver Bullets' passing Taunton around 13:30.   66107 worked the 6V70 Cliffe Vale - St Blazey down through Taunton at 19:15 heading for Cornwall, the train also conveyed what looked like 9 new VTG wagons.   Firstgroup had their Adalante Diagrams out again today, and 180107+108 took the stole to Plymouth and back to London.     12th August   For the fourth day in a row Mendip Rail saw fit to provide another Class 59 on the 7C27 Merehead - Exeter Riverside stone and so today sent 59104 out for a trip to Devon and back. It later worked back North at 12:26 with the 7C28 empties.   Today's Adalante diagram to Plymouth and back utilised 180110+180107. 13th August   59102 was sent out today providing 5 Mendip Rail Class 59's in 5 days on the 7C27 Merehead - Exeter Riverside stone! The loco worked north with the empties at 11:56  being looped to allow a London Bound HST to pass.   66039 worked the 0F34 09:03 Westbury - Exeter Riverside light engine move, and later returned with the 6F34 12:00 Exeter Riverside - Westbury. It 6F34 worked back north through Taunton just before 13:00.   66004 was out working the 65V62 Fawley - Tavistock Jn fuel, passing Taunton at 17:50 heading South to Tavistock.     14th August   Yet another Summer Saturday is upon us and yet more trains to record and photograph.   First to appear as usual was the GNER HST from Leeds, passing Taunton at 04:47 at speed running empty to Plymouth.   67005+67016 worked the first 5C89 Old Oak Common - Goodrington Sidings with 67016 leading passing Taunton at 05:15 with royal loco 67005 on the rear.   67003+67002 then worked the 5C99 following at 06:00.   Just after 10am this morning things became very busy indeed, with numerous movements in a brief 30 minute period.   Firstly 47316+47200 (Both in Cotswold Rail, Grey and Blue) made a fine sight racing through at speed with the 1Z77 05:26 Chester - Penzance Railtour operated by Pathfinder Railtours.   In the opposite direction at 10:15 came Royal 67005 working the 1M89 Paignton - Preston service, complete with Intercity Coaches.  This passed 66159 which was working an 0Z06 Newport - St Blazey light engine move to cover for 66192 which was heading north to Newport and would pass Taunton later in the day.     At 10:18, 67003 then worked north following close behind 67005 with the 1E99 Paignton - Newcastle service, this passed 43153+43098 heading South with the 1V21 Manchester - Newquay service for Virgin. Although 43098 did not sound at all healthy!   At 10:30 the last of the hectic half hour trains and 67026 worked South with the 1Z80 Tonbridge - Par 'Eden Ex' run by Pass Time Railtours.   The 1C40 Cardiff - Paignton service for Wessex Trains was back to Class 143's again today giving the chance to ride a nodding donkey down the wall again! They called at Taunton around 11:00.   66192 mentioned earlier was working a 6Z06 St Blazey - Newport empty spoil train, passing Taunton at 11:58 taking more of Cornwall's old stone into Wales.   Virgins other soldiers out working were 43092 and 43122 (122 having replaced 094!) this set was working the 1V31 Leeds - Paignton service. They passed Taunton around 11:55.   The GNER HST (Now carrying passengers!) worked North at 13:00 with the 1E34 from Newquay - Edinburgh.   The afternoons holiday maker specials, were worked by 67001 on the 1V15 York - Paignton service, this passed Taunton at 13:43 heading South, 67015 then followed at 15:00 with the 1V19 Preston - Paignton service.   At 15:20 is was time for 43122+43092 to return back north, this time working the 1M78 Paignton - Manchester for Virgin Trains.   The evening then began in earnest and all that had been seen in the morning period began it's race back to the North  and East. 67002 hauled 67001 north at 17:35 with the 5A15 Goodrington Sidings - Old Oak Common empty stock.   New came Virgins work horse, 43153+43098 passing at 18:05 with the 1M25 from Newquay to Manchester.   67016 raced north with 67015 dead on the rear at 18:53 on the 5A19 Goodrington - Old Oak Common empty stock.   It was then the turn of the super duffs, 47200+47316 raced north through Taunton at 19:35 having managed to complete Exminster - Cogload Jn in around 30 minutes flat. The pair with snow plough fitted 200 looked stunning in the evening sunlight passing Cogload Jn.   67026 then attempted to keep pace with the two racehorses in front panting north at 20:00 with the Pass Time Railtours 1z81 Par - Tonbridge 'Eden Ex'.   As if the daytime experiences were not enough, Taunton had another night of engineering work at the station to contend with. 66069 arrived at 21:42 with the 6W20 21:10 Westbury - Taunton which conveyed 5 Yellow Autoballasters.     15th August   Having been at the station overnight 66069 returned back to Westbury at 09:50 with the 6W20.   LNER A4 60009 'Union of South Africa' was working 'The Torbay Express' again today and steamed through to Taunton at 10:10 on time.   A suprise working for a Sunday afternoon was the appearance of yet more doubled headed Class 47's! (That's four in 48 hours!) 47811 was used to haul dead 47815 (Two Tone Green) and a rake of Firstgroup Mk3 coaches from Laira - St Phillips Marsh.
