On the 7th October 2009 Network Rail operated a through test train from Exeter to Minehead (via Taunton Station) traversing the full length of the West Somerset Railway.
No.31106 operated 4Z07 14:57 Exeter - Minehead and after a break at the seaside town of the preserved railway it later formed 4Z07 19:32 Minehead - Didcot. The unique working of a Network Rail test train traversing a preserved railway was captured at several points along its route.
