Memories - Summer HSTs 2005

Published on 1st June 2005

Since steam days it was once a long standing tradition that additional stock would be drafted in from other routes to help with the increased loadings to transport passengers from North, Midlands and London into the south west during the summer months.

Holiday markers would be able to catch direct trains to holiday destinations in the Devon Riviera and traditional Cornish holiday hotspots. We take a look back 17 years to 2005 when Virgin Cross Country were still able to hire in HST stock from Midland Mainline and GNER to provide lengthened trains, providing more luggage space. We have put together a gallery of images featuring Virgin operations from the summer of 2005.
