Memories - 22 Years Ago - 1998

Published on 1st May 1998

We are pleased to be able to bring you another selection of images from the David Jones Collection.

Over the past nine months, we have been busy behind the scenes scanning and recording information from various notebooks to pull together correct caption information for each image. In total, we now have 2300 images that have been scanned waiting to be processed. This gallery features images from May, June, and July of 1998, featuring a wide and varied railway scene. English Welsh and Scottish Railways (EWS) had already taken over Transrail, Load Haul, and Mainline operations and their livery was beginning to appear on some locomotives. On the passenger front, Virgin Cross Country (later Virgin Trains) were in the process of adding their corporate identity onto their Cross Country services. Virgin was also hiring in traction to cover for increased passenger loadings during the peak summer season, with companies such as Midland Mainline and Railfreight Distribution able to fill the short fall in Virgin's own fleet of locomotives. We hope you enjoy this gallery and look back to 22 years ago.
