We continue our look back to the past with a look back to the past with a new selection of previously unseen images from 1998 dating back 25-years. 1998 was a year of major transition with EWS having taken over from Mainline Freight, Transrail and Loadhaul, this in itself brought major influx of interesting traction to the Taunton area.
Great Western and Virgin were also busy applying their new corporate-liveries to their HST fleets. Many mixed rakes of coaching stock were operating during this period. Loaded stone trains were also operating on a daily basis to Minehead for the local sea defence project. This traffic flow also supplied a range of new and interesting locomotives mainly from the heavyweight Class 37 fleet.
We hope you enjoy this selection of images taken in February 1998, and if you would like to view more images from the David Jones collection please click the link below.
