Laira Loco Convoy

A large convoy of locomotives was moved from the Laira Depot Open Day back to their respective bases and depots around the UK on the 9th September 1985.

BR Blue Class 25 No.25288 lead the convoy providing a tow for No.56037, and Class 20 locomotives No.20051 and No.20094 through Taunton Station. The locomotive was returning the locos from the Laira Open Day on the 9th September 1985.

The large crowds gather at Cogload Junction as two Ex GWR 'Castles' No. 7029 'Clun Castle' and No. 5051 'Drysllwyn Castle' pass under the crowded bridge at Cogload Junction on the 8th September 1985 operating a Plymouth - Bristol Temple Meads GWR 150 steam charter.


The Great Western Limited


Published on 1st September 1985

Brunswick Green Class 47 No.47484 departs from Taunton on the 1st September 1985.

The loco was operating the diesel leg of 'The Great Western Limited Charter' as 1Z47 09:15 London Paddington - Plymouth. The tour would return later the same day with GWR Castle locomotives Clun Castle and Drysllwyn Castle double-headed running as 1Z47 Plymouth - Bristol Temple Meads as part of the GWR150 Celebrations.
