A visit to the Taunton area by railway photographer and magazine editor Colin J Marsden recorded a wide variety of loco hauled services operating through the Taunton area.

A variety of locations were visiting recording both loco hauled passenger and freight services operating on the 29th March 1985. The scenes recorded in black and white record the former Norton Fitzwarren Cider Factory, and the closed BR link between the mainline network and the West Somerset Railway. The images were taken on a Nikon FM2 with manual 50 or 85mm 1.4 lens. Using XP1, later XP2 film processed in C41 by Del Mercer.

In 2025 these images were scanned by Colin on a Nikon film scanner mounted on a Nikon D850, recorded in Raw and processed in Photoshop 2025 using AI to improve quality.

British Rail large-logo Class 50 No. 50045 'Achilles' powers away from Taunton on the 28th March 1985.

The loco was operating the 07:30 Penzance - Glasgow Central service captured passing Taunton East Junction at Obridge.

 Double-Headed 1B18

BR Blue Class 31 No.31286 double heads with No. 50001 'Dreadnought' south at 40 Steps on the 22nd March 1985.

The pair were operating the 1B18 06:35 Bristol Temple Meads - Plymouth service with consisted of both passenger and parcels traffic. The service was booked to be a double header.
