 Hymek Banker

Published on 2nd September 1965

British Rail 'Hymek' No.D7079 is pictured on banking duty at Wellington on the 2nd September 1965.

The loco would bank heavy passengers and freight services over Whiteball Bank as required, after reaching the Whiteball signal box (where there was a siding that the banker could drop back into), the loco would return to Wellington during the next available gap in the trains ready for the next train that needed some help. The locomotive lasted a further six years before being withdrawn from service. Image taken on a Brownie 127 camera.
