17th January 2018
Freigtliner Class 66/5 No.66556 leads a portion of the Network Rail HOBC back from Norton Fitzwarren to Fairwater Yard on the 17th Januaty 2018, after turning the set of the Norton Fitzwarren Triangle. Powerhaul liveried Class 66 No. 66528 'Madge Elliot MBE Borders Railway Opening 2015' was also out of sight on the rear of this set.

Freightliner Class 66/4 No.66419 (formerly operated by Direct Rail Services) is showing signs of some much needed care and attention, with it's rusty 'window weaping' from the cab windows. On the 17th January 2018 the locomotive is pictured passing Creech St Michael hauling the loaded HOBC ballast as the 6C73 12:12 Westbury - Fairwater Yard.

Freightliner Powerhaul liveried Class 66/5 No. 66528 'Madge Elliot MBE Borders Railway Opening 2015' passes Oath on the 14th January 2018 while working the 6Y15 08:15 Reading West Junction - Fairwater Yard. The locomotive was returning the Network Rail HOBC set to Taunton after overnight ballast cleaning on the Great Western Mainline. On the rear of the set (out of sight) was Class 66 No. 66501 'Japan 2001'.

Thursday 11th January 2018 provided a classic crisp Winter day with clear skies in the Taunton area. Freightliner Class 66/5 No. 66528 'Madge Elliot MBE Borders Railway Opening 2015' is pictured at Cogload Junction returning to Taunton with the loaded 6C73 12:12 Westbury - Fairwater Yard HOBC portion conveying freshly loaded ballast.

Freightliner Powerhaul liveried Class 66/5 No. 66528 'Madge Elliot MBE Borders Railway Opening 2015' arrives into Taunton on Friday 5th January hauling the 6C73 12:12: Westbury - Fairwater Yard loaded HOBC ballast. The feeder service from Westbury (which runs as required) had been loaded with ballast from the virtual quarry at Westbury Yard ready for overnight Network Rail track renewal trains which operate from Fairwater Yard.

Having spent the night out on the Great Western Mainline between Ruscombe and Reading relaying track, Network Rail's TRT returned to Taunton on Sunday 16th July. Freightliner Class 66/9 No.66952 hauls the 6X04 08:20 Reading West Junction - Fairwater Yard through Creech St Michael nearing Taunton.

Freightliner 'Powerhaul' liveried Class 66 No. 66528 'Madge Elliot MBE Borders Railway Opening 2015' 'Madge Elliot' operated the 6X04 16:10 Fairwater Yard to Ruscombe on the 15th July 2017. The track relaying train had been formed in Fairwater Yard during the early afternoon ready for its overnight work to relay track. The colourful set is seen passing Charlton (near Cogload Junction) on route north.

It's been quite some time since we've had a lengthy HOBC set operating into Taunton, on Saturday 27th May 2017 Freightliner operated the 6Y15 18:00 Wooten Bassett Junction - Fairwater Yard returning from overnight engineering work. The full set was hauled south by Class 66/5 No.66520 with counterpart No. 66502 'Basford Hall Centenary 2001' 'Basford Hall Centenary' located on the rear of the set. It's pictured here arriving slowly into Taunton in the evening sunlight.
