Wearing a patchwork quilt of repairs on its front end, Freightliner Class 66/5 No. 66526 'Driver Steve Dunn (George)' powers the 6X04 07:00 Kennington Junction - Fairwater Yard track renewal train away from a short pause at Cogload Junction on Sunday 22nd April 2018. Classmate No. 66533 'Hanjin Express/ Senator Express' was formed in Top and Tail formation on this diagram as is standard for operations to and from Fairwater Yard.

Freightliner Class 66/5 No. 66533 'Hanjin Express/ Senator Express' is pictured on the rear of the 6X04 07:00 Kennington Junction - Fairwater Yard TRT heading for Taunton on Sunday 22nd April 2018. The locomotive is more often found working Intermodal/ Freightliner services hauling containers, however common user pools created between Freightliner Intermodal and Freightliner Heavy Haul do provide better usage of locomotive fleets.

2nd April 2018
The centre mechanical section of the Network Rail High Output Ballast Cleaner (the RM900RT ballast cleaning machine) departed Fairwater Yard on Easter Monday 2nd April 2018. Freightliner provided the transport with powerhaul liveried Class 66 No.66504 hauling the machine. The locomotive is pictured crossing the Somerset Levels at Oath working the 6Y15 12:53 Fairwater Yard - Crewe.

The 4E18 09:47 Fairwater Yard - Doncaster Wood Yard was double headed on the 28th March 2018. Class 66/5 No. 66594 'NYK Spirit of Kyoto' and No.66538 hauled the used concrete sleepers all the way to Doncaster. At Doncaster the locomotive normally returns a new rake of fresh concrete sleepers back to Fairwater Yard late the next day. The pair are pictured passing Durston shortly after passing Cogload Junction.

Freightliner Class 66/9 No.66951 leads the lengthy Network Rail HOBC set back to Fairwater Yard on Wednesday 28th March 2018. The locomotive passes Creech St Michael hauling the 6Y15 04:36 Ebbw Junction - Fairwater Yard with No.66504 out of sight on the rear of the set.

Freightliner Class 66/5 No. 66594 'NYK Spirit of Kyoto' leads the 6Y15 09:50 Tyford - Fairwater under the M5 approaching Broomhay Crossing near Bathpool on Sunday 25th March 2018. The HOBC set was returning to Fairwater Yard after overnight ballast cleaning duties on the Great Western mainline. On the rear of the set was No.66951.

This rare shot taken on the 28th February 2018 nicely captures three Freightliner locomotives in one shot at Cogload Junction in wonderful low winter light. Class 66/5 No.66511 leads the 6Y15 04:40 Rumney River Bridge Junction - Fairwater Yard HOBC set back to Taunton with No.66598 on the rear of the train. In the distance running light engine from Westbury to Fairwater Yard Class 66/5 66555 stands at the signal waiting to follow the HOBC set into Taunton.

Taken on Sunday 25th February the scruffy Class 66/5 No.66511 passes Cogload Junction hauling the 6Y15 11:03 Filton West Junction to Fairwater Yard returning the Network Rail HOBC back to base in Taunton.

Freightliner Class 66/5 No.66598 leads the 6X04 08:10 Didcot East Junction - Fairwater Yard TRT set back into Fairwater Yard on Sunday 25th February 2018. The colourful consist arrives back with a mix of new and used sleepers at the front of the train and the track relaying machinery at towards the rear. Freightliner powerhaul liveried Class 66/5 No.66504 was attached to the rear of the set.

Heading in the opposite direction on the lower level, an unidentified Class 220/221 takes the direct route to Bristol as the 1M45 10:50 Paignton to Manchester Piccadilly.

After light overnight snow had melted providing a clear crisp day Freightliner Class 66/5 No.66511 returns to Taunton passing Bathpool hauling the 6C73 12:22 Westbury - Fairwater Yard loaded HOBC portion on Monday 12th February 2018. The train operated via Bristol Temple Meads to turn the set so it was the correct way round for its next overnight ballast cleaning duty in South Wales.

With heavy rain and sleet showers having passed through the Taunton area, Freightliner Class 66/9 No.66953 leads the Network Rail TRT back through Creech St Michael having spent the night on the Great Western Mainline renewing track. The 6X04 09:00 Didcot East junction - Fairwater Yard was hauled by No.66953 & No.66511 in Top and Tail formation.

The locomotive was returning the Network Rail HOBC set to Taunton after overnight ballast cleaning on the Great Western Mainline. The feeder service from Westbury (which runs as required) had been loaded with ballast from the virtual quarry at Westbury Yard ready for overnight Network Rail track renewal trains which operate from Fairwater Yard.

Freightliner 'Powerhaul' liveried Class 66 No. 66528 'Madge Elliot MBE Borders Railway Opening 2015' 'Madge Elliot' operated the 6X04 16:10 Fairwater Yard to Ruscombe on the 15th July 2017. The track relaying train had been formed in Fairwater Yard during the early afternoon ready for its overnight work to relay track. The colourful set is seen passing Charlton (near Cogload Junction) on route north.

It's been quite some time since we've had a lengthy HOBC set operating into Taunton, on Saturday 27th May 2017 Freightliner operated the 6Y15 18:00 Wooten Bassett Junction - Fairwater Yard returning from overnight engineering work. The full set was hauled south by Class 66/5 No.66520 with counterpart No. 66502 'Basford Hall Centenary 2001' 'Basford Hall Centenary' located on the rear of the set.
